Israeli airstrikes in Gaza City have killed at least 24 Palestinians, including a sister of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh. Two schools in Gaza City were hit, killing 14 people, and a house in the Shati refugee camp was also struck, killing 10 others. The Israeli military said its forces had targeted fighters involved in planning attacks on Israel, including some who had seized hostages during a cross-border attack on October 7. However, Hamas denies using civilian facilities like schools and hospitals for military purposes. The conflict in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of at least 45 Palestinians, with a high risk of famine persisting across the densely populated coastal enclave. International mediation has failed to yield a ceasefire agreement, with Hamas demanding an end to the war and full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. The Israeli offensive in retaliation for the October 7 attack has killed 37,658 people, according to the Gaza health ministry, leaving the tiny enclave in ruins.
