It’s that time of year when I start getting innudated with emails that say, more or less, “our offices are closing for a year-end break, our services will be available on an emergency basis/not at all for 5-10 business days.” It seems more and more offices are choosing to extend their end-of-year holiday. The idea is that well-rested employees and well-timed sales pitches are more valuable and brand-aligned than keeping staff on the clock. I see it most often in professional services (like my friends at Revalue LLC and Venturous Counsel), but also in nonprofits (like my former employer NEW (Nonprofit Enterprise at Work)), and even in some consumer retail (think REI’s #OptOutside Black Friday campaign). Curious if others are seeing this? Or experiencing it in your own workplace? Are we moving toward a world where any brand that touts "quality product and employee experience" has a holiday closure? Or is this trend of treating your workers reaching its peak? Especially curious if you’re in a workplace that’s trying this for the first time in 2024. Because it’s beginning to look a lot like we’re changing the culture of work. #OfficeClosure #WorkplaceWellbeing #PeopleFirstCulture #CultureOfWork

Ever wondered why some client relationships thrive, while others just…fade? Hint: it’s not just about showing up, but about showing appreciation. The holidays are here. And so is the perfect excuse to make your clients feel valued. But before you default to the usual box of cookies or corporate swag, let’s shake things up. 🎁 Gifts aren’t about extravagance or checking a box. They’re about making that personal, thoughtful connection that sticks. Forget generic. A small, meaningful gesture can say more than the biggest gift. Take a moment to reflect on your client’s interests. Maybe it’s a donation to a charity close to their heart, or a simple handwritten note (yes, cursive still has power!). You’d be surprised how much these little touches can elevate your relationships into that “blue ocean” space. Where competition fades because your connection runs deep. And remember, timing is key. Most companies wind down before Christmas, so don’t delay. What will you give this year that actually resonates? “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words but to live by them.” —John F. Kennedy

The holiday season is officially here! 🎊 Have you thought about how to treat your team as the year wraps up? Here are a few ideas: ❄️ Secret Santa — a classic holiday tradition in many workplaces. A fun way to surprise your colleagues with a thoughtful gift or give them something they've been wishing for. ❄️ Themed party — "Ugly Christmas Sweater" is always a hit! Encourage everyone to wear their most cringe-worthy sweaters, organize a little contest, and snap some photos for the memories. You could also host a retro party, a Harry Potter night, or a party based on a show or game the team loves. ❄️ Gifts for employees' kids — little treats like sweets, small toys, or tickets to a holiday show. It's a small gesture, but it shows that the company cares about not just its employees, but their families too. This can really help boost loyalty and strengthen company culture. ❄️ Charity initiatives — the holidays are all about giving back. Many companies run charity drives for the Armed Forces, orphanages, hospitals, or senior homes, bringing employees together for a great cause. ❄️ Year-end recap — host a final team-building event to celebrate the year’s achievements. Highlight each department’s contribution, share plans for 2025, and spread some positive vibes as you look ahead. What activities are you planning for your company? Share your ideas in the comments!
