This past week, I had the privilege of meeting with the Knowledge Impact Network team and connecting with genuinely inspiring researchers who share a passion for tackling a critical issue we’ve been exploring at Space 4 All Ltd LC: the impact of #nanoplastics #NPs on our health. Dr. Leisha Martin and her team are deeply committed to understanding the pervasive threat of these tiny pollutants, and it feels like we’re collectively inching closer to solutions. We have been actively researching how these particles are transported in the ocean and hope to use Planet's newest addition to their Low Earth Orbit fleet. We believe their HySpec camera will track the struggle of our #plankton colonies, which will help us track the nanoplastics, perhaps to point sources. Let's not chat about plankton health and NPs yet. In a recent paper, attached below, Marfella et al., 2024 highlight evidence linking nanoplastics to clotting in the human bloodstream, potentially contributing to thrombosis events and perhaps untimely deaths. A compelling study published in March in the NEJM Group's New England Journal of Medicine revealed nanoplastics within arterial plaques and thrombi in patients studied post-surgery or post-mortem. This research highlights how these rejected foreign particles may exacerbate clotting risks, underscoring the urgent need for further investigation and actionable solutions. This collaborative momentum gives hope that we’re on the cusp of addressing this significant challenge. We need help, research investment, and ideas, all of which are accepted. Hi, Folk I am thrilled to share that my recent research contribution has been accepted at the 16th Mediterranean Conference on Information Systems (MCIS 2024) and the 24th Conference of the Portuguese Association for Information Systems (CAPSI 2024), Porto, Portugal, 2024. The paper presents an innovative approach. I address the critical challenges of data integration and semantic interoperability in healthcare systems by proposing a hybrid methodology that combines design science research (DSR) and ontology engineering (OE) principles. One of the primary contributions includes a detailed framework for the Federated Virtual Knowledge Graph (FVKG) approach, leveraging "Ontop" for efficient query processing, and a comprehensive case study focused on cardiovascular diseases, demonstrating the practical application and benefits of the proposed solution. The paper "Empowering Health Data Fusion: A Federated Virtual Knowledge Graph Approach Leveraging the Ontop Platform" explores the integration of minimal resource consumption with digital technologies in healthcare. By leveraging a Federated Virtual Knowledge Graph (FVKG) framework and the Ontop platform, it addresses critical issues of data integration and semantic interoperability in healthcare information systems (HIS). The research introduces a novel hybrid ontology-based design science research engineering (ODSRE) methodology, demonstrating significant innovation. Its strengths include innovative methodology, Use of the Ontop Platform, practical case study, and comprehensive framework. The methodology, combining design science research with ontology engineering principles, ensures a rigorous and systematic approach. 😎 💡 #Research #FederatedOntology #VirtualKnowledgeGraph #FederatedVirtualKnowledgeGraph #DesignScienceResearch #OntologyBasedDesignScienceResearchEngineering #ODSRE

#Innovation from the #LowEarthOrbit (LEO) ecosystem, particularly through the #InternationalSpaceStation (ISS), can lead to significant advancements, see Savin et al. Here are some ways that innovation can stem from the LEO ecosystem: 1. Unique microgravity environment for research 2. Biomedical and life sciences research conducted on the ISS has already resulted in numerous publications. They often attract more citations than similar studies conducted on Earth, indicating the high impact of space-based research. 3. Commercialization Opportunities in applications that extend beyond space exploration 4. #Patents and Knowledge Dissemination: patents from space research often contribute to wider knowledge dissemination and can inspire further #Inventions and advancements in related fields. 5. Path Forward for Innovation. #SpacePatents #USPTO #Citations https://bit.ly/3vQ1OVn
