This year’s date has fallen earlier in the year, highlighting the fact that the gap has worsened for the first time since 2013. As financial insecurity and the dynamics that come with pay disparity represent a core barrier to an equitable workforce it is essential that companies report on their gender pay gap, regardless of size, as a step towards greater parity. Equal pay day was this week (20th November). This year was the first time in over a decade that the pay gap between men and women has widened. So frustrating in 2024 😡. Equal Pay Day marks the day in the year when (based on the gender pay gap) women in the UK effectively stop being paid. This article in HRZone by Holly Coe is well worth a read. It sets out some of the causes as well as ideas for addressing the gender pay gap. https://lnkd.in/ej5UTE44 #GenderPayGap #PeopleAndCulture #EqualPay #GenderEquality

The Equal Pay Act is 54 years old and yet, according to the Fawcett Society, the gender pay gap has WIDENED this year. 🤦🏻♀️ The 20th November this year marks the day of the year when, based on the gender pay gap, women effectively stop being paid compared to men. That’s two days earlier than last year! The society also confirmed that the gap widens with age as women take on more unpaid caring responsibilities for children and older people. The answer? One might be employers genuinely embracing flexible working and the benefits of a diverse workforce. Thoughts? 🤔 #genderpaygap #equalpay #1970

This marks a setback, as 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘆 𝗴𝗮𝗽 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟯, reversing years of slow progress. ❗ The calculation for Equal Pay Day is based on the UK's mean, full-time, hourly gender pay gap, which this year stands at 11.3%, up from 10.4% the previous year. ⚠️ Fawcett Society Chief Executive Jemima Olchawski, called the widening gender pay gap "𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴," warning that without action, most women won’t see equal pay in their lifetimes. She noted the gap grows with age as women take on more unpaid care responsibilities for children and elderly family members. ❗ TUC General Secretary Paul Nowak, stated that the UK economy is failing women, warning it could take 16 years to close the gender pay gap. He stressed the importance of the Employment Rights Bill, advocating for stronger flexible working rights and protections for pregnant women and new parents to tackle pay inequality. 👉 Ensure you have the knowledge, awareness & skills to support your workforce, 🙌 to find out more call us on 07753 639 237 or email hello@thrive-hr.co.uk To hear more about HR Industry News and Updates CLICK HERE 👉 https://bit.ly/3Qjh6c9 #Equalityatwork #Managingyourworkforce #EmployeeRetention

Senator Katy Gallagher, Minister for Women reminds us that: "The drivers of the gender pay gap are complex. It’s not as simple as just making sure that women and men performing the same roles receive the same pay – we’ve already got laws in place for that." Addressing the gender pay gap requires a deeper shift in how we value women’s work, the industries they dominate, and the unpaid care responsibilities they often carry. It's about changing attitudes and creating a fairer system where all contributions are valued equally. By tackling these underlying issues, we can move closer to a truly equitable and thriving economy. Read the whole article here: https://ow.ly/VMeH50T0MJw

The gender pay gap is widening again, reversing a decade of progress. Today marks Equal Pay Day, and this year, it’s even more sobering. For the first time since 2013, the UK’s gender pay gap has widened, meaning women will now, on average, work for free from November 20th until the end of the year—two days earlier than last year. Data from the Fawcett Society reveals the current gap at 11.3%, up from 10.4% in 2023. This reversal highlights that progress is not only slow—it’s stalling. Why? As women age, the gap widens further, often due to the unpaid care work they shoulder. It’s a stark reminder that tackling this issue isn’t just about future generations—it’s about addressing the challenges faced by women today. By shining a light on this inequality, we can encourage everyone to play their part in closing the gap and building a fairer workplace for all. #EqualPayDay #GenderEquality #PayParity

Today is Equal Pay Day, the day where women stop earning relative to men due to the gender pay gap. 👀 The gender pay gap this year has increased to 11.3%, compared to 10.4% last year. This is the first time the gap has grown since 2013, showing that progress has stalled. It's time for leadership in organisations to take charge and influence a positive change by challenging the biases and ensuring equality is a priority. For organisations to flourish we need diverse workforces to drive innovation and different ways of thinking, but we must ensure fairness and transparency through equal pay. What hits me the most about the recent statistic is if this gap closed it would have only a positive impact to businesses, as ultimately a happy, valued workforce undoubtedly outperforms one that isn't. Kudos to Fawcett Society for striving to change this and demanding action from policy makers 👏 Green Future Search Limited #genderpaygap #diversity #payequity #equalpayday
