🌊 *FREE CONFERENCE* Hosted by the Passamaquoddy Recognition Group Inc.: To the friends, partners, and supporters of the Passamaquoddy Bay, (please share widely) "For tens of thousands of years, Passamaquoddy Bay was a place of abundance and a source of well-being. "However, over the last two centuries, the diversity of species, habitats, and populations have been diminished to a point where the ecosystem is out of balance. The rivers, the Bay and the ocean are living systems that require our respect and protection. It is possible to turn things around, but it is going to take passionate people speaking about and acting on the kind of urgent change that is needed. To that end, the Peskotomuhkati Nation at Skutik is hosting Summit of the Bay II, to build on the learnings from the 2022 virtual Summit of the Bay, and to continue to bring awareness and inspire action regarding the urgent plight of our waters and fish. Summit of the Bay II will offer a variety of perspectives on the past, present and future homeland ecosystem health, and actions to assist in restoring our homeland. "Please RSVP today at our website: www.summitofthebay.com, in-person or virtual attendance is possible."

🔵 🔍📝 The influence of pre- and postnatal exposure to air pollution and green spaces on infant’s gut microbiota: Results from the MAMI birth cohort study 👨🔬 Adrià Cruells, Raúl Cabrera-Rubio, Mariona Bustamante, Dolors Pelegrí, Marta Cirach, Pol Jimenez-Arenas, Anna Samarra, Cecilia Martínez-Costa, Maria Carmen Collado, Mireia Gascon Link in our BIO 🔗 https://linktr.ee/semipyp 🌿🔬 Results Acute exposure in the first week of life and chronic postnatal exposure to NO2 were associated with a reduction in microbial alpha diversity, while the effects of green space exposure were not evident. Acute and chronic (prenatal or postnatal) exposure to NO2 resulted in increased abundance of Haemophilus, Akkermansia, Alistipes, Eggerthella, and Tyzerella populations, while increasing green space exposure associated with increased Negativicoccus, Senegalimassilia, and Anaerococcus, and decreased Tyzzerella and Lachnoclostridium populations. 🌱🦠 Discussion We observed a decrease in the diversity of the gut microbiota and signs of alteration in its composition among infants exposed to higher levels of NO2. 🌍🌳 Increasing green space exposure was also associated with changes in gut microbial composition. Further research is needed to confirm these findings. #NO2 #AirPollution #GutHealth #Microbiota #GreenSpace #InfantHealth #EnvironmentalHealth #PublicHealth

It was an honor to welcome distinguished healers, healthcare practitioners, researchers, and advocates to our Second International Conference on Traditional and Complementary Medicine. As the Director of the Institute for Social and Cultural Research at the NICH, I believe in bridging the gap between traditional and Western medicine for the betterment of our communities. This conference provided a unique platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing, and the integration of traditional medicine into our healthcare system. In alignment with UNESCO's efforts to preserve intangible cultural heritage, we discussed the importance of protecting and promoting traditional healing practices as a vital part of our cultural identity. We also explored the potential of traditional healing practices as a form of intangible cultural heritage, a means towards economic development, and discussed the importance of integrating traditional practices into the healthcare system. Together, we explored the rich traditional healing practices from across Belize and the region, discussed the challenges faced by traditional healers, and explored potential avenues for collaboration with Western medicine. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of this important event and for the valuable insights and connections that were made. The conference was hosted by NICH-ISCR, Namusa Wellness Center, and the Belize Medical and Dental Association. Our sponsors included Belize Tourism Board, Belize Natural Energy Charitable Trust, Print Belize Ltd., United Nations Human Rights, Ministry of Sustainable Development and Climate Change, San Miguel Farms, Tropical Health and the Maria Goncalves Pharmacy and Medical Clinic. #TraditionalMedicine #CulturalHeritage #Healthcare #Belize #CommunityHealth #UNESCO
