How Do You Know that Working Abroad Is Better for You? The short answer is you DON’T. You may consult your friends or relatives who are currently working in the country of interest. In most of the cases they tend to share their good experience to justify their choice; or perhaps their situation in Malaysia was relatively worse. The real question to ask is, what are the PULL and PUSH factors that lead to that move? In other words, what are the reasons that make you want to LEAVE Malaysia and what are the reasons that ATTRACT you to work in that selected country? If MONEY is the top motivation, in most of the cases, you will be disappointed. I heard Singapore is the best choice if you are commuting from JB. Else as Singapore is among the most expensive countries in the world, it may not be as lucrative as you think. Alternatively, you may go to GCC countries in the middle east. I migrated to the US which was purely about money. That was after living and working in the US for 6 years. At the beginning, as a kampong lad, it took me the whole year to get used to the environment especially the language and weather. As an expat, I was lucky that I managed to secure handsome C&B packages. Migrating to the UK almost 20 years later, presented completely different experiences. That’s perhaps, I have established a very comfortable life in Malaysia. I could say, it was a huge downgrade in every aspect. Bear in mind that the UK now is different from the UK of 10 -20 years ago. The same goes for the USA and everywhere else in the world. Should you be pursuing your dream to experience working abroad? Absolutely, if you really understand what you’re getting yourself into. #braindrain I #workingabroad I #careerplanning
Ishak ,the point - know what you are getting yourself into is extremely important is spot on. 1. Fresh graduates have a better prospect if they move after gain experience of few years 2. Expense level in foreign country + expense back home both are increasing 3. Yearly trip home is getting expensive year over year. Many are opting to having a trip few years once. 4. Gains in terms of exposure, skills and new way of thinking. One of the gap I see, many are not taking the opportunity to integrate, making exchanges and building a good network with non Malaysians. Many are interested to understand how we operate, efficiency in areas we are good at and exchanges helps in a lot of ways both sides.
We have lived & worked in the UK 15 years ago...Agree with Brother Ishak Karim & Suhaimi Ariffin, PhD. Things are not the same with higher cost of living & increase crime rate. Found that earlier this year during our 2 weeks UK holiday. It was not a pleasant holiday as we expected. Compared to UK, Spain, Italy, Germany, US, Egypt countries we've been too. Malaysia tops the list for hospitality, beautiful countryside rich with tropical local produce.
Yup, setuju. 🙈
Most people are not suited to work outside of their home countries because they have to leave the familiar behind and embrace something entirely new. There is nothing wrong with that. The most miserable expats that I've encountered are those who do not want to encounter change but move to an environment that requires it. Expat spouses also have a high level of dissatisfaction. One party might be having a great time, while the other is functioning in a greatly diminished capacity.
(whispers to Ishak Karim) somehow, there is still something magical about Malaysia kan?🤷♀️
Sir, if you can't make it to work abroad, I sincerely feel like actually there are a lot of exciting job opportunities in Malaysia as well :)
Sir,may I screenshot your words because it inspired me also to choose your right career
Hujan emas negeri orang, hujan batu negeri sendiri….. di mana bumi dipijak, di situ langit dijunjung…… untung batı tenggelam, untung sabut timbul….benih yang baik campak ke darat menjadi gunung, campak ke laut menjadi pulau….. all these peribahasa summarized them all. Thanks for the sharing.

In the end life here are the same as life home. Here the always sun and great places to visit back home same coffee shops and rain ect ect. Mostly its the law of the jungle that make me happy here. People in SEA they accept you for who you are if you are poslite and respect others. In DK Janteloven, laws of the Jungle are to make you sick. Look at this and this and also this bla bla. So enjoy the place you choose to go to and to show all that you could. Or at least tryed. Many never ever try and will look back when old and dream. Here we sre living the hard working dream
