Three Things Tuesday: 1) Dubai’s getting a bigger exhibition boat. The DEC at Dubai Expo will be 2.5x its current size by the end of 2026 and end up 1.5x the size of DWTC by 2031 – with parking and road plans –­ making it the new home of the emirate’s mega-exhibitions. And as anyone who’s tried to get out of DIFC during a Gitex or Gulfood knows, it’s all about the traffic. 2) That will let us compete with the likes of Europe and Asia, says Natalie Crampton of The Event Company – we’ll end up with double the space of London’s ExCel, and nearly 50% more than Singapore. We’re not the cheapest destination, she tells her clients, but in terms of hotels, F&B and experiences, the quality is 'second to none'. 3) Meanwhile, Dubai property price appreciation more than doubled last month – which Zhann Jochinke of Property Monitor (below, taller, plaid) doesn’t love. It’s not sustainable, it will price people out of the market, and the last time prices grew at this rate the government ultimately stepped in with LTV and other controls, he says.

Dubai’s Expo City is set for a remarkable transformation following the approval of a massive AED 10 billion expansion plan. This initiative aims to reinforce Dubai’s position as a global hub for events, exhibitions, and business. The masterplan includes a significant expansion of the Dubai Exhibition Centre, growing the venue to 180,000 square meters by 2031. Once completed, the center will be able to host over 600 large-scale events annually, further boosting Dubai’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Events (MICE) sector, which is projected to contribute AED 54 billion annually to the economy by 2033. How will the 10 BN AED (USD 2.7 BN) expansion of the Dubai Exhibition Center be a game changer for Expo City Dubai, Dubai and the global MICE sector? On completion, the DEC will become the largest purpose-built indoor events and exhibitions venue in the region. Once all phases of expansion are complete, the DEC will be 1.5 times larger than the current Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC), serving as the new home for mega exhibitions. This expansion will enable Dubai to double the number of large-scale events hosted annually, increasing from approximately 300 today to over 600 by 2033, thereby reinforcing the emirate's status as a leading hub for international exhibitions and business events. Exhibitions like GITEX GLOBAL Largest Tech & Startup Show in the World and Gulfood - The World's Biggest Annual F&B Event will continue to grow in scale, with DEC as their home.
