Grid following inverters, present in the majority of IBRs (Inverter based resource) such as renewable energy generation- including solar PV, wind, and battery energy storage, play a crucial role in system stability. These devices automatically shut down in the event of a significant voltage or frequency disturbance in the grid. The root causes of these disturbances typically involve a resource tripping offline due to grid event such as a tree falls on a powerline, force majeure, etc. The electronic nature of these IBR devices limits their overload capabilities, such as thermal stress, which requires careful consideration in managing grid changes. As the penetration of IBRs increased, new challenges to system stability have risen in recent times, which shows the importance of understanding and addressing these issues to improve reliability. #renewableenergy #solarPV #wind #energystorage #energyreliability
