From our archives 📂, we look back at the 2011 Hyundai Sonata’s door module made in STAMAX™ long glass fiber #polypropylene. This part, a 2010 Society of Plastics Automotive Innovation Award winner 🌟 in the Chassis/Hardware category, helped demonstrate the potential of simplifying the design and manufacture of door modules with #thermoplastics.
STAMAX resin replaced steel in all four door panels of the vehicle (for a significant weight save), enabled 21 components to be integrated into a single injection-molded part (including the window guide rail), and cut overall system costs by streamlining five assembly processes into one.
Today, STAMAX resin continues to serve as a go-to material for structural #automotive applications such as front-end modules, instrument panel carriers, and tailgates. And our solutions have evolved in a big way. We now offer grades to support enhanced aesthetics for exposed surfaces, low smell and emissions, higher flow, and increased stiffness. In addition, we offer mechanically recycled grades to help make possible a lighter, more sustainable footprint.
