Inspired by the veins on the backs of leaves, Bcomp’s powerRibs is said to create a 3D grid on one side of a thin-walled shell element, which maximizes stiffness at minimal weight. 👍 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐭: 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟐 🚘 It was quite something when the first series brake pedal made of plastic saw the light of day in the Porsche AG 918 Spyder more than 10 years ago... 🏎 🏋♂️ Due to the extreme and complex loads on such a pedal, especially in a super sports car, the project could only be realised with multi-axial continuous fibre reinforced composites. 💡We developed a multiaxial, quasi-isotropic Tepex organo sheet made of PA6 and glass fabrics with fibre orientations at 0°, 90°, +45° and -45° to reliably withstand the loads. The pedal was manufactured at ZF Group Friedrichshafen using a one-shot hybrid moulding process. 👀 Brake pedals made of Tepex are now widely used: For example, the 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗮 and the 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗧 use Tepex brake pedals. The components are in large-scale production at BOGE Rubber/Plastics, also using the hybrid moulding process. 🚀 Of course, materials have also evolved since 2012.
