The absence of health considerations in the EU's strategic agenda for 2024-2029 is highly concerning. 🚨   This Wednesday, EU heads of state are meeting in Brussels to discuss the strategic agenda for the European Union for the next 5 years. 🗣️   Alarmingly, the draft proposal doesn't mention the word ‘health’ even once. Action to tackle pollution or biodiversity loss is also missing, and governments merely pay lip service to climate change. 🌎⚠️   👉 HEAL’s 80 environment and health members across Europe are calling on EU leaders to protect people's health by prioritising action against climate change and environmental pollution: https://lnkd.in/eBnuzXst     #EnvironmentalHealth 

This #BiodiversityDay, be #PartofThePlan 🦋 🐋 🦌   The UK Government commissioned Dasgupta Review found that "Our economies, livelihoods and well-being all depend on our most precious asset - nature". Alongside tackling climate change, halting, and reversing biodiversity loss is central to UK foreign policy and the UK's 2030 Strategic framework for international climate and nature action. Already, we partner with government, civil society, and local communities in Viet Nam to tackle these twin challenges. Halting and reversing biodiversity loss will take all of us. Governments, business, investors, and communities all have a role to play. 🌍 Advocating for Nature and Health: A Positive Response from the UK Government 🌱 The UK Health Alliance on Climate Change recently received a response to our letter addressed to the Minister for Nature, highlighting the vital intersection of climate, nature, and health. This exchange underscores the growing recognition of how the natural environment directly influences human well-being and the urgent need to restore and protect it. A healthy natural world is not just about biodiversity; it’s about cleaner air, better mental health, and resilience against climate-related challenges. While there is much work to be done, this response is a step in the right direction—a sign that our collective advocacy is making waves. Let’s continue pushing for policies that prioritise the health of both people and the planet. Biodiversity, Climate Change and Reproductive Health: Building climate resilience by protecting women’s reproductive choices. MSI Ethiopia has established a new partnership  with the Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute and PHE Ethiopia Consortium, to advocate for a concerted effort to address the critical need for reproductive health in the face of climate emergency. It is crucial to understand how biodiversity, climate change, and reproductive health interact. At #MSI, we firmly believe that women with reproductive autonomy are better suited to assume leadership roles in local and national decision-making processes, where they can prioritise the gendered viewpoints of women while developing local climate change adaptation solutions.

The #Nature #Restoration #Law (Regulation on Nature restoration) has passed at the Council. After almost exactly 2 years since the proposal, here we are! Let this be a force to drive us forward, environmentally for sure, but also socially and economically. My hope is that, more and more, sustainability-related policies and industrial policies go hand in hand to foster a sustainable and competitive industry in the EU.

International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples encourages us to recognize and celebrate Indigenous cultures, languages, and legacies, as well as commemorate the first meeting of the U.N. Working Group on Indigenous Populations in Geneva in 1982. EESI strives to highlight the perspectives offered by our nation's Indigenous communities on how to approach the climate crisis, and to also be mindful of the unique challenges they face. For example, our article series on Indigenous sustainable agriculture explores how the Farm Bill and other policies could better support food systems in Native communities, and the benefits that could have on U.S. agriculture overall.
