We're thrilled to showcase the tech demonstration from Azimuth Technologies, who collaborated with Chuan Lim Construction Pte Ltd on an innovative project for the automatic installation of noise barrier panels. This collaboration was made possible through their participation in Cycle 4 of BEAMP.
Traditionally, installing noise barrier panels involved significant challenges, including worker safety concerns and the need for at least four people to install each set of panels. Thanks to BEAMP, Azimuth and Chuan Lim tackled these issues by:
1. Redesigning the noise panels using Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) principles, adapting the workflow for robotic adoption.
2. Designing a customised robotic arm capable of handling the noise barrier panels efficiently.
3. Developing a Vision Analytic system to facilitate the accurate placement of panels using AI 3D Point Cloud technology, overcoming environmental light interference and ensuring precise detection of 3D objects.
The results are impressive! The new robotic system can install noise barrier panels in less than 5 minutes per column, and creates the possibility of only requiring one on-site worker. This innovative solution also significantly improves safety by minimising the need for workers at heights, and results in cost savings by reducing labour needs and minimising error rates.
Looking ahead, Azimuth and Chuan Lim plan to further develop and test their technology, potentially through a trial/pilot at the Jurong Regional Line project.
Best of luck to Azimuth and Chuan Lim as they continue their fruitful collaboration! 🎉 Don't miss the accompanying video for a closer look at their transformative work.

If you're at INTERMAT Paris then pop by the Kobelco stand (EXT6 C119) for your chance to see Kobelco's TKE750G, its new telescopic boom crawler crane with a maximum lifting capacity of 75 metric tonnes, "in the iron"!
The crane is equipped with an EU Stage V-compliant Mercedes-Benz E9H01 (Daimler OM936LA) engine and continues the same basic concept of the G series lattice boom crawler crane models. The TKE750G will be available from mid-2024 onwards.
Main features
1. Excellence in design
The machine concept is built on the same tried and tested technology as the G series lattice boom crawler crane models offering high reliability, great utilization, and simple ease of operation by design alongside excellent durability and commonality across all the G series models.
2. Durability for foundation works
These machines are mainly used for foundation works using vibration hammers, auger drilling, and hammer-grabs for all casing methods, etc. The KOBELCO telescopic boom crawler crane series includes a larger engine capacity, shorter boom length with higher winch capacity on standard main/auxiliary winches, and stronger, thicker wire ropes offering higher capability of foundation works in comparison with conventional telescopic crawlers on the market.
3. Purpose built durable boom design
The TKE750G is equipped with an exceptionally stiff 4-plate box structural boom that has been designed for foundation work. The boom’s lightweight and durability have been achieved through optimizing materials, construction, and welding.
Thanks to the short boom length with a side deflection-resistant fully powered boom, the crane is capable of taking on any job, especially on compact job sites. The crane is equipped with a 22mm diameter wire rope with a 7.0 tonne rated line pull. The main and auxiliary winches are positioned vertically at the rear end of the machine, helping maintain a compact main body.
4. EU Stage V-compliant powerful engine
The TKE750G is powered by a Mercedes-Benz E9H01 (Daimler OM936LA) 7.697l water-cooled, in-line 6-cylinder direct injection and turbocharged engine, with a rated power output of 254kW/2,000 min-1, that is compliant with NRMM (Non-Road Mobile Machinery - Europe) EU Stage V regulations. This powerful engine offers higher hydraulic performance, especially important during foundation operation.
Kobelco’s KCROSS (Kobelco Crane Remote Observation Satellite System) is also retained on the TKE750G model. Machines fitted with KCROSS transmit working conditions, locations, and maintenance history to provide owners with fact-based information for their asset management.

A new agreement has been made to advance the development of a next-generation air wing as part of a UK government-funded project aimed at expanding wind-assisted propulsion. GT Wings is set to showcase its AirWing Technology on a Carisbrooke Shipping general cargo ship starting in the fourth quarter of 2024. Carisbrooke Shipping, which operates a fleet of multi-purpose cargo ships across Northern Europe, the UK, Mediterranean, and Black Sea, has been collaborating with GT Wings for over two years. They plan to install this wind propulsion technology on one of their UK-registered dry bulkers, the Vectis Progress, a vessel built in 2012 and measuring 407 feet (124 meters) long. GT Wings has teamed up with A20 Manufacturing and KS Composites to bring this technology to life. A20 Manufacturing has played a crucial role in refining the AirWing's design for optimal production. George Thompson, CEO of GT Wings, highlighted that this collaboration is key to validating the AirWing and making a real impact on reducing global shipping emissions. The first AirWing, a 66-foot (20-meter) unit, will be installed at the bow of the Vectis Progress. GT Wings claims this new technology uses advanced airflow techniques to achieve up to 30% fuel savings. Carisbrooke expects to see fuel consumption reductions between 5 and 30% and lower emissions, depending on how the technology is configured and used. The compact design is particularly suited for general cargo ships with limited deck space. The project also benefits from expertise provided by the University of Bristol, which is involved in testing and modelling the composite structures. GT Wings received a £3.7 million grant from the UK Department of Transport through the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition, which supports innovative technologies to decarbonize the maritime sector. This program requires participants to complete demonstrations and feasibility studies between April 2024 and March 2025.
