It might seem uncommon to present an award to Purdue Engineers who are 38 years old or younger. But when you consider that Neil Armstrong was 38 years old when he became the first person to set foot on the moon, the #PurdueEngineering #38by38 award not only makes a lot of sense, but also has special meaning. We combed through hundreds of nominations, never ceasing to be amazed at the accomplishments of our alumni. They hail from every corner of the #engineering industry, including #healthcare, #aerospace, #transportation, #defense, #energy and #software. Please join us in congratulating this inaugural group! 2024 recipients: https://bit.ly/3ZTumK5 Learn more: https://bit.ly/38by38 Why 38? The Purdue Engineering 38 by 38 is inspired by the legacy of alumnus Neil Armstrong, who was 38 years old when he became the first person to set foot on the moon. The annual award honors 38 Purdue Engineering alumni who are 38 years old and younger and have demonstrated an accelerated trajectory of professional success and made a significantly high impact in their field, organization, community or society as measured in units relative to their work. #PurdueEngineering #38by38

It's never too late to pursue your dreams! For me, that means becoming an Aerospace Engineer. Despite not having taken a math class in nearly two decades, I'm determined to learn the complicated math required for this field. I'm excited to take on this challenge and see where this journey takes me. #neverstoplearning #aerospaceengineering #mathskills

There is no choice but to implement digital engineering for developing defense vehicles systems, according to Dr. David Gorsich, chief scientist of the U.S. Army DEVCOM Ground Vehicle Systems Center. During an event at Clemson University last week, Gorsich said: "The future of this nation's development of vehicles systems depends on digital engineering approaches. These approaches make the design and development of our systems faster, more efficient and cost effective and reduce risk." He continued, "Based on the pressures of global competition, there is no other way." Gorsich was speaking at the annual review of Clemson and the US Army's partnership, the VIPR-GS Research Center, which is in its fifth year. VIPR is an acronym for Virtual Prototyping of Autonomy-Enabled Ground Systems. Zoran Filipi, founding director of VIPR-GS and Clemson's School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, said the scale of this year's event was unprecedented. The DEVCOM Ground Systems Center (GVSC), formerly known as the United States Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC), is the US Armed Forces' R&D facility for advanced technology in ground systems. Meet Dr Stephen Sun, our resident expert on 3D-printed #aerospace components and #DSTG Outstanding Early Career Achievement Award winner. Dr Sun’s research focuses on subjecting 3D-printed parts to non-destructive screening processes. Using a high-power x-ray CT, Dr Sun and his #DefenceScience colleagues identify potential internal defects and link them to mechanical fatigue problems - like a health check, making sure there's no danger when these components are used in aircraft. The ultimate goal? To advance the quality control side to the point where high-value, 3D-printed components can be safely integrated into aircraft. With his big picture thinking, collaborative spirit, and attention to detail, Dr Sun is set for a soaring career ahead!
