Irish Tourism Industry Confederation - ITIC’s Post

Today the Government announced that it will increase the International Visitor Levy (IVL) to $100, despite calls and submissions from BARNZ and other aviation and tourism groups opposing the move. The IVL will be increased by more than double, which will adversely impact tourism, hospitality and numerous other sectors as inbound tourism softens. New Zealand needs to be cost competitive for airlines and visitors alike, taking a careful look at all the costs we apply, making sure they are fair, and don’t price New Zealand out of the global tourism market. IVL consultation material gave no justification for the increased costs to be charged. Quite simply, it is not clear what the increased IVL will be spent on, beyond the need to top up funding for Tourism New Zealand following further cuts in the recent budget.
