Michigan State University is hosting a free spray drone demonstration focused on pest management! This event highlights the growing intersection between agriculture and drone technology—a field I'm deeply passionate about. As drones become increasingly integrated into various industries, the potential for innovation in agriculture is immense. From precision spraying to real-time crop monitoring, drones transform how farmers manage their fields. This demonstration is a prime example of leveraging technology to enhance efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and support sustainable farming practices. For those involved in public safety, understanding the diverse applications of drones—including those outside of traditional law enforcement or emergency response—is crucial. Events like this broaden our perspective on UAVs' capabilities and underscore the importance of cross-industry collaboration. I encourage everyone interested in the future of drone technology to attend this event and see the advancements in drone technology firsthand. https://lnkd.in/gR-BpYPC #Drones #Agriculture #PestManagement #Innovation #PublicSafety #Sustainability

As the world evolves so does the definition of what's normal and that includes how livestock producers manager their cattle, which is exactly what a farm at the University of Kentucky is doing. "Finding cows, finding calves. This can be an essential tool for a lot of producers, so we're just trying to think about, we have this device that's commercially available, could this be something they utilize on their farm?" “What we found was if we fly with a single drone about 30 foot above ground level, the cattle don't seem to care too much about the drone being within their vicinity. We also found if we fly multiple drones they do respond and flight pattern does matter." Chemicals are put inside the large drone to help maintain the health of the pastures. "Going along fence lines, spraying some herbicides, you know, getting rid of weeds, so this could be a very effective tool for some more cattle operations across the state." The drones will also provide 3D imaging of the cows to gather weight and health estimates without farmers physically handling the animal. Jackson describes this as a revolutionary solution. Additionally, in the Fall season, thermal imaging will allow farmers to see Angus cows clearly as the day grows darker. The cows also wear a belt that monitors their heart rate as the drones are being tested and a collar that helps to track their location. See https://lnkd.in/gFaJhc7n #Cattle Michael Sharpe

Prediction: In a decade, over 10% of agronomy departments will have a FAA certified part 107 drone pilot on staff. Drone adaption on golf courses can be slowed due to regulations, but having a certified drone pilot on staff enables you to get the most bang for your buck. Whether you are working with one of the many drone companies, or decide to build out your own program, an on-site drone pilot ensures frequency of flights are able to meet your needs. Pilot is a loose term as most drone flights will be done with a pre-planned flight path. Drones are poised to be one of the most versatile pieces of #TurfTech as the use cases on golf courses and properties as a whole continue to grow. -Plant health monitoring -Course documentation -Property and utility surveys -Digital drainage & irrigation maps -Digital map creation for routing & training manuals -Native weed spraying (will need a part 137 exemption in addition to part 107)
