How can you build a reputation in the film industry? Well, the secret for me has always come down to one word. Listening. Sounds simple but I swear by it. I’m always listening. Always attentive to my team and clients. Always ready to respond to something that is needed or wanted on set. Honestly, I do my best to anticipate what’s needed and have it in place before it’s even requested. This gives the impression that my team and I are lightning-fast. Or that we can read minds. Truth is, we are fast and experienced. We work hard to know our stuff and get the job done as efficiently as possible. But the fact is, if you can really listen and anticipate what’s needed – you don’t need to be fast. You’ll be ahead of the curve. How about you? What things did you focus on to build your reputation? Nothing being commissioned, broadcasters saying that they have no money, and lots of creative people without jobs, and leaving the industry. I have to say it: Big channels are looking for their own ways to film in an unknown country for them, without any production services company. Maybe, because they believe they are saving money, not paying any fee and just hiring 1 producer the first week. Then, another one the second week; and finally, but not surprisingly, they have a complete local team at the end of the show. Don't get me wrong, of course they are free to manage their shows as they want; but It's always better to work with planning and organization from the beginning. And: -You don't need to bring even the runners from your country. Save that money and hire local crew members. -You don't need to bring all your crew to the first pre production day. Just send the key ones. -You don't need to buy everything. Preferably, rent all the things you can! So, you won't pay any storage after your filmation.
