It's all over the news: summits like the Africa-Japan Summit, US-Africa Summit, and Italy-Africa Summit where all 54 African presidents travel to converge in front of one president under the guise of development or bilateral talks have been normal scenes. It's high time the world recognizes that Africa is not a country but a continent made up of 54 unique countries, each with its own challenges and opportunities. Converging all these leaders to heed to one country in the name of a summit doesn't just stand right for us as a continent. When will our leaders learn? What tangible solutions do they bring back for their respective nations? Oh Africa, our motherland, where did we go wrong? We must advocate for summits that understand and address the individual needs of each African nation. Our leaders need to focus on homegrown solutions and intra-African cooperation to drive real progress. It's time for Africa to rise, for our leaders to prioritize genuine development over political theatrics, and for our voices to be heard and respected on the global stage. This is a call for a new era of engagement where Africa’s diverse needs are recognized and addressed appropriately. Only then can we ensure true progress and prosperity for our continent. #IUMedia #AfricaUnite #Leadership #Development #BilateralTalks #AfricaOnTheRise

It’s truly disheartening and embarrassing that our African leaders, particularly those from sub-Saharan Africa, have brought such shame and disappointment to our people. The fact that a small country like South Korea can host a summit with forty-eight African nations speaks volumes about the state of governance and leadership in our continent. We see American-Africa summits, Russia-Africa summits, China-Africa summits, and now a South Korea-Africa summit. How is it that a single, small nation can summon the collective presence of nearly an entire continent? The answer lies in the corrupt politicians and incompetent governance that have reduced our great nations to this state. Our leaders should reflect on their actions and strive to restore the dignity and respect that Africa deserves on the global stage. It’s a shame that we’ve been reduced to this by those who were supposed to uplift us.

🌍 Leadership is about bold decisions that shape the future. "30 to 35 years ago, China was not where it is today. Now, it stands as the second-largest economy in the world. This transformation happened because of leadership—because of strong, decisive action." These powerful words from H.E. William Ruto, President of Kenya at the Africa CEO Forum 2024 are a reminder that visionary leadership is the driving force behind progress. In Africa, as in the rest of the world, true leaders focus not on short-term wins, but on long-term impact. They make tough decisions, even when it challenges the status quo, because they understand that leadership is not about popularity, but about progress. 📈 Are we ready to embrace leadership that prioritizes Africa’s future over fleeting interests? #Leadership #DecisionMaking #Africa #GlobalGrowth #AFRICACEOFORUM #AssertiveAfrica Kenya Investment Authority (KenInvest) Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Agence française de développement in Eastern Africa Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) Strathmore Business School (SBS) Joshua Oigara William Samoei Ruto PHD Uhuru Kenyatta Mo Ibrahim Foundation Daily Nation Newspaper Business Daily Africa Fisayo Fosudo

🔊 Tonight: a Conversation with Prof Fikeni at My Book Launch 📖 As I prepare to launch my book, Purposeful Leadership for Africa in the 21st Century, I’m honoured to have Prof Fikeni as a key voice in the discussion. His deep insights into political leadership, both in South Africa and across the continent, are invaluable. Prof Fikeni is not only a well-known political analyst and commentator, but also a highly independent thinker and renowned scholar in international affairs. His understanding of leadership deficiencies is particularly relevant to the themes explored in my book, where we grapple with the complexities of governance and development in Africa. He also offers a critical perspective on the positive and negative impacts of industrialized nations on the continent, a topic crucial to Africa’s development. What makes Prof Fikeni’s contribution even more compelling is his familiarity with the developments in successful Asian countries, particularly China. His comparative knowledge between Africa’s leadership challenges and Asia’s success stories will undoubtedly enrich the conversation and provide fresh insights for all in attendance. I look forward to an engaging dialogue that brings new perspectives to the urgent questions around leadership and Africa's future.

Leadership is about showing up, ready to face the challenges head-on, no matter how daunting they may seem. In Africa, where the obstacle often becomes the way, our resolve must be stronger than anyone's rejection. As my late University President at Tennessee State University, Dr. Hefner, used to say, "Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest lion, or it would be served for lunch. And every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest gazelle, or it may starve to death. So it doesn't matter if you are a lion or a gazelle; when the sun rises, you better be ready." This proverb encapsulates the essence of leadership on the continent. We must embody the hunger and tenacity of the lion, relentlessly pursuing our goals and vision for a better future. At the same time, we must maintain the humility and grace of the gazelle, always mindful of the impact our actions have on others and the generations to come. As leaders, we have a sacred duty to keep the interests of both present and future generations at the forefront of our legacy projects. It is a daunting task, but one we must embrace with unwavering commitment and determination. So let us rise each morning, ready to face the challenges that lie ahead, knowing that our resolve and dedication will pave the way for a brighter future for all. The obstacle may be the way, but with the heart of a lion and the grace of a gazelle, we shall overcome and leave a lasting legacy for generations to come. #Leadership #Africa #LegacyProjects #Resilience #Determination #StanfordSeed
