Exciting update from the 9th African Nutrition Conference! 🌍🍎 I had the privilege of attending an insightful post-conference workshop led by Tanya Khara , a representative from the Emergency Nutrition Network (ENN) 🚨 Key takeaways from this enlightening session: 1️⃣ Learned about the Emergency Nutrition Foundation and its crucial work 🏥🆘 2️⃣ Explored the concept of Field Exchange and its importance in sharing real-world nutrition interventions 📊🔄 3️⃣ Gained valuable insights into the process of paper publications in the field of emergency nutrition network 📝🔬 This workshop has broadened my understanding and the vital role of knowledge sharing in our field. Looking forward to applying these learnings in my future work! 💪🌱 #AfricanNutritionConference Africa Nutrition Society #EmergencyNutritionNetwork #FieldExchange #ContinuousLearning #NutritionScience

Check Out the Latest Great Debates in Nutrition! The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (AJCN) has launched the latest in its Great Debates in Nutrition series: “Should a Single Growth Standard Be Used to Judge the Nutritional Status of Children under Age Five Years Globally?” Authors Elaine Borghi and Harshpal Singh Sachdev present both sides of the argument in two separate articles. Then in a third consensus article, the two authors discuss where there are points of agreement and where there are continuing controversies. For example, the authors agree that “the need for target-based advocacy for countries’ engagement and political commitments toward the reduction of child malnutrition across the globe is indisputable.” However, the authors find continuing controversy surrounding “methodological approaches for developing a single growth standard for evaluating nutritional status globally.” Finally, the authors set forth a research agenda to resolve the debate. Too often in nutrition science, major controversies regress to polarized camps in which the like-minded collaborate and agree with each other, but they fail to seek common ground with those from opposing camps. This human tendency can impede a rational examination of evidence and promote politicization of science. In response, AJCN's Great Debates in Nutrition provides a venue for scholarly and collegial discourse on key unsettled topics in nutrition, especially those with direct translation to clinical care and public health. #ChildGrowth #GrowthStandards #GreatDebateNutrition #Malnutrition #ASN https://ow.ly/KAr950TC5iY

The global nutrition community is investigating investment strategies that could promote increased investment in nutrition programming in low- and middle-income countries. A new paper from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Eleanor Crook Foundation, Using the Lives Saved Tool to Inform Global Nutrition Advocacy, details how the Lives Saved Tool was used to determine the potential impacts of increased investments in nutrition interventions in nine high-burden countries and how the results were packaged to develop Nourish the Future (PDF) - a five-year proposal for the US government to scale up lifesaving malnutrition interventions. https://bit.ly/3AzjWoq Read the full Nourish the Future proposal at https://lnkd.in/d4exus68

The information, mindset, and standards of care medical practitioners learn in school and implement in practice are outdated and objectively failing. Education on nutrition, supplementation, vitamin deficiency, peptide therapy, and how they affect the epigenome is almost completely absent in medical schooling and mainstream practice. 50% of the US population is deficient in 6 of 7 key vitamins and nutrients required to maintain health and homeostasis, 80% is overweight, and the average life expectancy is decreasing for the first time in a century. These courses provide the knowledge and understanding you need to address this gap in medical education and mainstream practice, based on up-to-date research, giving you the tools you need to optimize your own health, and the health of your patients. https://lnkd.in/e2mAs9kv

What are future needs for nutriton research in Switzerland? How can technological developments help to place nutrition research in a position to produce knowledge that can be translated into practice in line with One Health policies? Our group's position paper in the British Journal of Nutrition, The Nutrition Society, we argue that nutrition research needs to be strategically organised to respond to the societal expectations. One key element of this strategy is to integrate precision nutrition into epidemiological research.
