The event that stimulates qualitative changes in life has begun — Women's Empowerment Lausanne. Some participants are finding friends and like-minded individuals, others are improving their skills and discovering new opportunities for growth. For some, our program in collaboration with Ukraine Reborn is a step towards radical changes 😊 On the first day, participants learned to build quality relationships and discover their strengths with Svitlana Modelsky. Well this is a welcome step indeed for women's empowerment. Kawata received numerous messages from women of all ages telling her how her election gave them hope and courage. These kinds of role models for women, and young people in general, show that change can happen. That there is room in politics for younger people who can empathize with their constituents. Even if her victory was unexpected, it is no small matter that the three local political parties including the LDP all backed her, a nonstereotypical politician. The hurdles for women remain high, but step-by-step barriers are being broken. Gender parity in politics may be far off but we are going to see more and more women get frustrated with the status quo and enter politics to effect change. Bravo.

“Let us be what we have to be, not what they let us want to be” (Elliot Orizaarwa Tumwijukye) Ending a week of discussion of the 68th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women, the conference on Imagining and building Feminist Economic Realities has done more than « Imagining ». Coming with a community-based panel composed by Rosalba Karina díaz Crisóstomo,elliot Orizaarwa Tumwijukye., mirembe agnes, rom romlawati. They show their actions to develop economic rights in their respective countries. The entire discussion highlighted the power of owning in our capitalist society and how the development of cooperatives works as a counter-power against the structural patriarchal organisation. It has been two years that I have been attached to shift from a « global » vision of feminism to the research of understanding the plurality of the global south feminist perspectives. Through the exposure of the Ugandan, the Dominican Republic and Indonesian, the speakers gave a grassroots illustration of the empowerment of women by themselves, for themselves. Centring the sensitisation, awareness and sustainability, all of them are working to provide options to women and not solutions, leaving them the liberty/sovereignty to own from the start their destiny. Who run the World? Beyoncé nailed the song for sure... but the discourse of women empowerment needs to transcend beyond classrooms and elitist conferences. It was my pleasure to have moderated a discussion with the domestic staff and female security guards of Chanakya University, on what women empowerment and inclusivity mean to them. The word 'empowerment' has always been loaded. Usually, it conjures images of boardrooms and CEOs. But what about the women who hold up our very communities? By listening only to a limited range of voices, we risk overlooking the specific needs of entire sections of society. Especially for a diverse country like India, inclusivity in discourse is paramount! Effective solutions can be designed ONLY by understanding the problems of everyone involved. By including people from all walks of life in empowerment conversations, we gain a clearer picture of the on-ground challenges and foster a sense of ownership that leads to actual change. This thought is what led me and my team of changemakers at Chanakya to conceptualize this one-of-a-kind panel discussion. Like they say, one size fits none. It's time we asked ourselves, "Whose voices are missing at the table?"
