It's been a while LinkedIn: Until today, my header said Happy New Year 2023! I'm glad to report that it was so much more than that. I started my #NewJob last January, made a LinkedIn banner saying something about 'manifesting a wonderful year', and put my nose to the grindstone. I must admit I didn't look up in this direction. Of course the learning curve was wonderfully steep, as I stepped into the world of an operational charity from the grantmaking wing of the sector. I must admit that I ignored you LinkedIn. Forgive me. I focussed on learning my craft in my first #fundraising role. I am delighted to report that I am still here, passing my probation with flying colours, and surpassing my grants and trusts fundraising target for the year. Trusts and Foundations are of course the 'biggy', as the majority of Keynsham Mencap's fundraising is from them. Beginning to understand the funding landscape has been such a sweet journey. I have far to go for sure and am increasing my networks to do just that. I have discovered that my English teacher writing and storytelling skills are key to showing the world what we do and unlocking their compassion and coffers. I have noted that my relationship building skills are, as they said in my skills-based interview, so important to this role. I have become embedded in this astonishing local community of people with a learning disability and #neurodivergence, their families, friends and advocates. My 9 year old and I are volunteering at the disco tomorrow. We can't wait...and yes we will overdress and love it! #CongaPotential While I can't promise to be here daily, in fact I promise not to be as time does not permit, and I am on annual leave next week, I hereby solemnly swear to connect with you all a little more in 2024. We held our annual strategy event on Tuesday, and my head is buzzing with plans and events which I will share in good time. Spoiler - yes I will be doing classic fundraiser things such as leaping off tall buildings, and attending charity balls. If you'd like to know a little more about K&DMS, and the people you can see on my spangly new header, hop over to 'the other place', the platform I _did_ pay attention to last year, to check out ThisIsMe! named after the song that became an anthem for the #charity and for #disabled people everywhere. I created this #ImpactStory ocasional blog to amplify and centre the voices of people with a #LearningDisability, and showcase what we do through them. I hope you will enjoy this insight into their lives and interests. In the picture below is Paul, who attends several of our clubs every week and has been doing so for years. https://lnkd.in/g4pEK3_7

Community Sharing Circle: Acting As Our Mother Earth Wishes https://lnkd.in/gsY9HScH The first in a series of sharing circles to explore how to better move into harmony with the Earth and each other as we also facilitate our own healing journeys. Topics will vary, but the core of each will be how to not only hear the Earth but also do as She is now instructing us to act. Give a listen and join us weekly to seek ways to weave a new existence that will serve all creatures, including we humans, and all generations to follow through our non-profit, Sanctuaries of the Earth Mother (sotem.org).

Attended a session of “Padma Shri - Savji Dhanji Dholakia, chairman of Hari Krishna Exports, a diamond manufacturing and exporting company. Lot to learn from this gentleman. He ensure following : 1) Employees motivation is the key to success. Their family motivation to be considered as well with family tour and gifts. 2) Every business should be socially responsible and contribute to society in some way . Plant trees as much as possible. 3) Investing in Education and so on. He believes that success is not just about making money, but also about giving back to the community and creating a positive impact on society. Unique idea of sending his children to a new city to earn on their own without established support, so that they learn to value money and learn the art of earning on their own.
