Kindness knows no limits and transcends barriers, and it’s this universal compassion that lies at the core of everything we do. It’s not just about the treatments, it’s about offering a gentle hand, a listening ear, and a genuine heart. We believe that every person, regardless of their condition, deserves to feel seen, heard, and valued. This #WorldMenopauseDay, I'm sharing a personal story from my book, Memory Boxes. I truly thought I had escaped the menopause symptoms that my mum endured; the hot sweats and the mood swings. Unfortunately, these typical menopause symptoms did affect me, including migraines that came out of nowhere. It soon became clear that I didn’t have a full understanding of what the menopause was. What is menopause, you ask? Menopause is when your periods stop (around 45-55) due to lower hormone levels. But it can come earlier and symptoms like anxiety, brain fog, and night sweats can hit you even before then (perimenopause). The unwelcome discovery..... These symptoms can last for YEARS! I'm still dealing with some of them, almost 20 years later. Medication helps with the migraines, but those night sweats? Turns out, it wasn't just me being hot! And the mood swings? I’d like to think I wasn’t moody but my ex-husband would probably say otherwise, and this may well have contributed to my marriage breaking down. Here's the thing: you're not alone! Let's talk openly about menopause. Let's break the stigma and empower ourselves (and each other!). Want to know more about how the Menopause effected me? For centuries, menopause was shrouded in misunderstanding. Women going through menopause were often dismissed as "hysterical," with their symptoms mistaken for madness. Many were even institutionalised, their hormonal changes confused with mental illness. We talk openly about the hormonal changes children and teenagers experience, but menopause and perimenopause remain taboo. Menopause is a natural part of life, yet around 1 in 6 women still consider leaving their jobs due to a lack of understanding and support, with 6% actually stepping away from work. It’s heartbreaking to think that in 2024, so many women still feel forced out of the workplace because of symptoms that could be managed if only there was more empathy and resources. If we support women in the workplace through menopause, by offering flexibility, open conversations and understanding, careers won’t need to be paused or derailed. Below is an article written by the brilliant Shalina Crossley and Sally Hulston, examining the Employment Rights Bill and highlighting how it brings menopause and mental health to the forefront as a workplace priority. https://lnkd.in/eMv9mjS8 Let’s end the silence and create spaces where no woman has to choose between her health and her career. Menopause should never be the reason someone feels left behind. I have shared it before but I have to share it again, this entertaining parody created by my very talented friend Monica Ogborne, it lightens up a Friday afternoon. #MenopauseMatters #BreakingTheStigma #CareerSupport #WomenInWork #UnderstandingMenopause #EmpathyInAction #EmploymentRightsBill

It's not just magic...It's not just about Australia... It's everywhere.... It's time we get serious and talk about it and make it a top priority in our lives both professional and personal. There is a lot to be done and nothing would be just enough. To start with, if we can't reduce the numbers, let's not do anything to increase it... #mentalhealth #mentalwellbeing #stressandanxiety https://lnkd.in/gCmqJ-dK
