From Emotion by Design, written by former Nike CMO who spent over 20 years with the company producing some of the most memorable campaigns that marketing has and will ever see. This insight from Hoffman really stuck with me. "So how do you first establish a culture of creative risk taking? Then protect it from those natural forces that try to crush it? There will always be those within an organisation who are the voice of reason , those who try to keep the dreamers within the guardrails. Those voices are good to have, and I don't mean to suggest that to maintain a creative offensive strategy a brand must abandon all caution. But a brand can remain true to its purpose and voice while at the same time encouraging the dreamers to create new ways to reach consumers. A culture of risk taking comes down to incentivisation. Does an organisation actively reward bold ideas? Does the leadership team make time to listen to those ideas ? The purpose of taking risks in marketing is to create a new way to engage with consumers. You are trying to reach them on a level that has never been done before but once done, changes the game forever (and often opens up new revenue opportunities) some call that disruption; I call it innovation." I love watching the brands that thrive as a result of taking the risk in doing something different. They do it for the potential of the ultimate reward - successful connection & a meaningful impact with the people they want to influence most.
Every great adventure starts with the right crew. For “The Feeling of Being on the Water,” we teamed up with a group of adventurers who truly live for the water. From wakeboarding legend Harley Clifford to ocean enthusiast Liam Robinson, filmmaker Tristan Houghton, and creative director Matt Laycock, each brought their unique perspective to celebrate the freedom, thrill, and connection that water inspires. As Matt Laycock puts it: “Water, in its serene simplicity, offers a profound sense of peace and clarity – a reminder of the primal joy that nature provides. Whether it’s the thrill of wakeboarding or the awe of exploring the ocean, I hope this inspires you to seek your own moments of tranquility.” Experience it for yourself: https://lnkd.in/gBVh_TNk #ThisWayOut #DometicMarine

Opening Up The Outdoors always discuss topics close to my heart. Not only about bringing more diversity to the outdoors but also introducing more working class, poorer backgrounds to get outdoors - and see the benefits. "Consumers feel extremely let down by governments and they are looking for brands and businesses to do the right thing. "They have higher expectations of outdoor brands, the brands here today at ISPO - as these are the ones benefitting. We need more initiatives, more investment, more role models, more empathy, more representation of sustainability on the C Suite," says Yasmin Dufournet at Salomon. Great question from the floor; We're trying to get more people outdoors but the most popular hills and mountains have queues of people grabbing their "instagram moment". Dan Yates and Yasmin both accept that this is the conundrum. What is the answer? "Education at a very young age to respect nature," says Yasmin, while Dan, "increasing diversity in the outdoors won't make a big difference." Panel led by Margo de Lange, including Verity-Gay Hardy at the European Outdoor Group (EOG). Another good talk Amanda Calder-McLaren. Real topics being discussed and ideas challenged. #OutdoorbyISPO2024 #OutDoorbyISPO2024 #ISPO #ThinkOutdoor #outdoorbrands #sportsbrands #hiking #climbing #trailrunning #running #camping Continuous, Stephen Ardern - Dan is based in Snowdonia National Park, our favourite. David Beattie, Neil Sheakey, Becky Narito, Alice Irving

Work-life balance means different things to different people. While many emphasize rest and relaxation, for me, it's about pushing my limits both mentally and physically. As someone with a competitive sports background and 25 years in recruitment, I prioritize balance without the poolside cocktails. This weekend, I'll be participating in the Tweedlove Enduro at the TweedLove Festival - a unique blend of world-class riders and enduro enthusiasts. Racing isn't everyone's idea of R&R, but it's how I strive to be the best in both work and life. #WorkLifeBalance #PushingLimits
