If it’s Saturday… It’s time for the weekly “Cool Things My Friends Do” post- Meet the Keynote Speakers for the Austin Technology Council “C-Suite Summit & Industry Think Tank!” (This Monday, Oct 28th from 1:00-6:00 PM at St Edward’s University). I’m thrilled to highlight two incredible leaders from local tech companies who will keynote this year’s Summit. Although I am not close friends with either (yet), working on this event, I’ve been blown away by their vision and impact. Razat Gaurav, CEO of Planview, has been leading the company for about three years, scaling it to double its size and with even more ambitious plans ahead. Razat will speak about growing and scaling organizations, but he’ll also touch on the vital role community plays in business growth—a topic close to my heart. John Nehme , CEO of Allies Against Slavery, will close the event with a talk that exemplifies the power of technology for the greater good. John’s work is proof of how tech can be leveraged to create real, positive impact in society, tackling issues that matter deeply. These presentations are going to be phenomenal, and they are both examples of the leadership, innovation, and community spirit that exists in the C-Suite of our local tech companies. (****If you work for a local tech company- make sure that someone from your company is present at this event****) #coolthingsmyfriendsdo #Austintech #techleadership

Great attendance for this event last week - place was packed! Thanks to Propel Ventures and SustainRecruit for organising - great location too. Some good conversation and insights on product and tech working together - why it's important and the benefit it has. Would be great to keep the discussion going on how to get that relationship started well, and then how to scale it. I think Grant was trying to poke at this a few times as the discussion focused more on pros and cons than the how. Also - what about the rest of the org? I think it's important to foster great partnerships across the whole of org, not only product/tech. That might start with product and tech, and starts top down, but a business needs to build a steady aligned 'heartbeat' across all divisions for best success. Remember too - conflict/friction can be good, combat is not. To get started this has to start top down - every org has different titles, but to keep it generic… The CTO and CPO need to be partners collaborating regularly, disagree behind closed doors, but a united front outside - set the example for how the teams should work together. Work is then needed to transfer this same relationship model to Heads of Tech/Eng and Product, then Engineering/Delivery Manager and Product Manager, and so on. Partnerships are the goal at all levels - if there's negative conflict it needs to be addressed fast, act fast to coach/mentor/reassign (or rehire). Starting with Tech/Product is probably good as that's likely a large portion of your org, but this quickly needs to expand to include Operations, Support, Security, Marketing, Sales, etc to ensure there aren't conflicting division priorities being missed, or causing misalignment. Everyone needs to work together. Everyone needs to have a say in priorities. Everyone needs to be across dependencies and potential priority clashes. To scale, these relationship elements need to be systemic - part of your processes, knowledge base, and induction training. Your processes should require participation, require inclusivity for prioritisation/planning, etc. Your processes should make it easy for people to partner the way the business needs, and hard for groups to accidentally (or intentionally) go off course - regular planning, commitment, showcases, reviews, etc across the whole of business. I haven't done the topics justice here - but I hope you get the drift… #tinyleadership #leadership #techleaders #TechAndProduct #technology #product #startups #strategy

Late last year, Stephen Rosenthal and Hannah French surveyed more than 100 Tech and Product leaders across Europe, as well as the investors backing them. In the most comprehensive investigation we’ve ever done at Founders Keepers, we grilled the most globally influential CTOs and CPOs working in the tech space today: asking them to share their pain points, hopes and ambitions for the future of their disciplines. And they certainly delivered: starting today, we’ll be sharing key insights from the inaugural T&P 100 survey – alongside deep-dives on how these key trends are powerfully shaping the future of the functions. In our T&P 100 Series, you’ll discover: 💡 Why Europe lacks a ‘culture of mythology’ around tech and product leaders – and how this continues to impact sector growth. 🔎 Why hiring consistently strong Tech & Product talent is still a challenge in Europe. 🚀 How CPOs and CTOs can more easily ascend to CEO… …and much, much more. Swipe right to skim the insights in full, then keep an eye out for the first deep-dive, dropping very soon.

As we embark on the second half of the year, the Austin Technology Council (ATC) is more committed than ever to fostering connections that drive our tech community forward. Recenet conversations with tech leaders have underscored a vital insight: smaller and mid-size growth-focused tech companies in Austin are eager for more opportunities to network and engage as a community. These conversations highlighted a critical need for stronger collaborations across our community—particularly with UT Austin’s Engineering, Business, and Medical schools....and with the largest tech companies with office in our region. We recognize that achieving the next level of innovation and growth requires the collective efforts of business leaders, academia, and government. Austin’s strength has always come from being a tightly engaged community. Now, ATC is seeking civic-minded leaders to join us in shaping the future of our tech ecosystem. Together, we can achieve remarkable progress in the coming months by fostering meaningful discussions and connections. Join us in our mission to bolster our vibrant and collaborative tech community. Let’s work together to make the second half of the year transformative for Austin’s tech industry. #AustinTech #Networking #Innovation #CommunityBuilding #Leadership
