Exciting to see a commitment to 1.5m more houses over the next 5 years, but there was a disappointing lack of green targets in yesterday's announcement. The UK's housing stock isn’t near where it needs to be on energy-efficiency and the affordability of necessary upgrades remains a huge barrier for consumers, one they can’t overcome without support. A clear Government plan is needed to earn their confidence. The Labour Party needs to address this and show they are taking the issue seriously. Maybe we should be looking at minimum energy efficiencies standards again? New Energy Efficiency Targets Announced!   The UK government has set a new goal for rental properties: achieve an EPC 'C' rating by 2030, or face letting restrictions. There is widespread consensus on the need to upgrade the UK’s cold and leaky housing stock. Benefits include greater energy security, lower bills, better health outcomes and cutting carbon emissions. Moreover, retrofitting is essential if the UK is to reach its legally binding net zero and fuel poverty targets.

💥💥💥 Evidence-based electrification transition modelling urgently needs to be made available for public interrogation by the ACT community, most vitally in the lead up to the ACT election on Saturday 19 October 2024 💥💥💥 Upon reading The Canberra Times article below, something just doesn't seem to add up... 👇👇👇 This "$3.6m initiative" announcement hardly seems an equitable roll-out of government (i.e. ratepayer) support funding, especially noting that an "equitable roll out" was the Number One priority expressed during stakeholder consultations. This inequality doesn't even begin to take into account the government (i.e. ratepayer) rebates already provided for solar, batteries etc that have been available to ACT's detached home owners. 2,100 households (apartments) = perhaps 1/3 (or less?) of the current apartments in ACT's Belconnen alone. 2,100 households x $15,000 (individual interest free loans provided to ACT's detached home owners) = $31.5m in equivalent interest free loans.
