🚢 **Paranaguá - Increased Capacity Equals Greater Efficiency!** The port of Paranaguá has invested millions to reduce the port and channel draught, enabling it to better serve its users and safely accommodate larger ships. This has been the result of extensive investment and hard work to achieve the current standards. With the recent increase in draught at Paranaguá port and bay, ships can now transport a significantly larger amount of cargo, making their calls more valuable for charterers and ship owners. Furthermore, the removal of Pedra da Palangana has improved vessel safety and maneuverability. The long-term goal of navigating with a draft of 13.1 meters at zero tide is now a reality! Paranaguá port is moving forward decisively under the current port administration. Portos do ParanáMarcon Logística Portuária

Last week Colon Container Terminal S.A. (CCT) announced that it made an investment of US$ 23 million for 12 hybrid RTG cranes (tire-mounted gantry cranes). The acquired cranes will be located in Coco Solo Norte, Colón province. According to the Director of Ports and Auxiliary Maritime Industries of the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP), Max Florez Arias, the use of hybrid equipment reflects a commitment to sustainability and the reduction of CO2 emissions, constituting a step forward in terms of environmental preservation. The new equipment allows for stacking up to five containers high, with room for an additional container, enhancing port efficiency by reducing waiting times and boosting the terminal's handling capacity. 💡 CCT, part of the Evergreen Group, is the 3rd largest container port in Panama in terms of container movements. It handled more than 1.3 million TEUs (20 foot containers) in 2023 and saw an increase of 23% in container movements the first half of this year. The answer is... cabotage. Source: ANTAQ - Agência Nacional de Transportes Aquaviários. However, it is important to note the following methodological issue: The Brazilian methodology is as follows: Inland = river transport; Cabotage = between Brazilian ports + between an inland port and a sea port that is not located at the mouth of the corresponding river. In other words, the methodology is biased in favour of cabotage.

#Mondaygoodnews 30.09.2024 Remember I told you how our company provided agency services for a vessel with a DW almost 30,000 tonnes. We can do better than that. Backstory: About a month ago we were approached by a company that bought a floating dry dock in the port of #Izmail. They needed to deliver it to one of the #Turkish ports. 2 Ukrainian tugboats would take the construction to 44 miles, and there other tugboats would take it to the open sea, and there 2 more other tugboats, which came from Turkey, would be waiting for it. The coupling scheme was make, the technical aspects were agreed, and it remained to get permission from the Sulina Canal. And then it turns out that there are not enough tugboats to participate. More power is needed. Otherwise we won't get permission. By the way, our task was not just to organise the floating dock sailing off from the canal, but to do it "not for all the money in the world" 🙂 It was decided to use tugboats from Sulina, but there was no power we needed there. The process was delayed by these difficulties, plus the weather was expected to worsen. In the end we found a tugboat in Constanta, Sulina administration gave us permission, the channel was closed for vessels while the floating dock went to the Black Sea. This could not be done in one day, as the speed of the convoy is lower than the average vessel speed. But, we did it! That's why if you need to navigate the vessel via the channel, from the Danube ports with deadweight from 900 tonnes to 30,000 tonnes or floating docks - feel free to contact our company 😉 With kind regards Katerina Kononenko AVALON SHIPPING SRL Sulina / Danube shipping agency Mob.: + 40767458944 Katerina www.avalonshipping.eu

VESSEL REVIEW: Chinese shipowner Zhejiang Huize International Shipping recently took delivery of a new refrigerated fish transport vessel built by Ningbo Donghe Shipbuilding capable of operating over long distances. 'Huize Lengyun 15' (汇泽冷运15; "Huize Cold Transport 15") is the first in a new series of vessels being built for the same owner. The temperature in the cargo holds is kept at –35 degrees Celsius. This helps preserve the quality of the transported catch up until it is offloaded at Zhoushan as well as other ports in China following long voyages. The cargo holds also feature systems for temperature monitoring, thus freeing up the crew to perform other vital onboard activities related to navigation. When not transporting refrigerated catch, the vessel may also be used for resupply duties in support of fishing fleets. These include the transport of equipment and ship’s stores to fishing vessels that are deployed over long distances so that these will not need to return to port purely for replenishment. 🌊 Alone in the dark, this little tugboat—the unsung hero of the maritime world—stands ready to guide giants. Here in Colón, Panama, this "little boat that could" is pushing the massive Dortmund Express from Hapag-Lloyd AG, a testament to strength in small packages. 🌟 Just like the famous story of "The Little Engine That Could," this tugboat demonstrates resilience and persistence, moving big container ships through narrow and challenging waters, often at night. Panama, and especially Colón, is home to one of the most critical waterways in the world—the Panama Canal—connecting global trade and enabling the movement of over 800 million tons of goods annually. At DRYNET GmbH, we appreciate the intricate logistics that make global supply chains work, from colossal vessels to the humble tugboats that ensure safe and efficient passage. Here's to the small but mighty! #Panama #Colon #Tugboats #MaritimeLogistics #GlobalTrade #TheLittleBoatThatCould #DortmundExpress #HapagLloyd #DRYNETGmbH

🌐 APM Terminals, together with local consultancy Alvarez & Marsal and law firm Navarro Prado, have issued a joint White Paper into the planning and organisation of Brazil’s container handling ports and terminals. 🚢 Pointing out that receiving vessels of 366 metres long is still an event in Brazil – when the world’s largest containerships are 399.99m – developing a hub and spoke model with a central transhipment port (or more), to which others are connected by local feeder, could save up 13% in maritime transport costs for a service from Asia. As a result, transhipment moves within Brazil could grow from the current 2.4 million TEU (19% national share) to 4.6mn TEU (30-40%). ⚓ Santos is the obvious choice to be such a hub, the report continues, with Itajai (and Navegantes), Itapoa, Paranagua, Pecem and Suape also suitable candidates. Currently, Brazil is served by intercontinental loops that call many gateway ports. This is due to a combination of circumventing cabotage regulations and to draught restrictions in port meaning ships often have to call twice, once to discharge on the way in and then again to load on the way out. 📣 Never miss an update on the container shipping industry.
