Why open to work banners (particularly without a picture) can be off-putting to potential employers. Firstly 99% of Recruiters have a profile picture on their Linkedin and with good reason. As long as you don't look like Michael Myers it's the first intro people have to you. Ideally a smiling face, you don't need to look like a super model but friendly helps. No picture and people might also think it's a fake profile (not all of us can verify just yet if our passports are older) but also don't we often pass judgement based on that picture? How many times have you looked at someone's profile and decided you like/don't like them before you've even spoken? Bad I know - we're far too judgmental aren't we. My Mum reckons Neil Prestwich THE UK'S LONGEST SERVING REC2REC. have got honest faces for example (true 😂) The open to work banner is a really tricky one. We all have bills to pay and if suddenly you find yourself jobless the banner shows potential employers that you're on the market without any delay. I know I'd probably make use of the banner myself as not all opportunities are advertised online are they? We've surveyed this and a fair proportion of potential employers find it off-putting. They don't want to be one of hundreds of businesses contacting you and a few have gone as far as to say they think it's lazy which really shocked me?
