Don’t miss our next webinar in the Energy & Utilities Talks series focused on the opportunities in biomethane across Europe. My colleagues, gas market and decarbonisation experts Johannes Pelkonen and Christian Rønberg, focus on the current market, the security of supply gap to be filled, revenue stacking opportunities, key drivers and incentives on both the production and demand side, and expected trends in sector growth and consolidation.

Analogies or comparisons help to break up misconceptions. This is a nice one on gas, coal and #solar:

New from International Energy Agency (IEA): "A single journey by a large container ship filled with solar PV modules can provide the means to generate the same amount of electricity as the natural gas from more than 50 large LNG tankers or the coal from more than 100 large bulk ships." https://lnkd.in/gFH4H3ig

Before you point out some subtle inaccuracy in this comparison, understand that it’s just an image. A powerful image, however.

"A single journey by a large container ship filled with solar PV modules can provide the means to generate the same amount of electricity as the natural gas from more than 50 large LNG tankers or the coal from more than 100 large bulk ships." This is the message so many overlook. Technology when deployed, has lasting consequences while fuels are nothing but pollution after a single use. Your ripple effects, your lasting consequences when participating in buying solar, choosing and electric Uber, or absorbing waste heat with a heat pump, each individually provide multitudes of benefits besides the direct boycott of fossil fuels. Because once the infrastructure is in place, it permentently (under warranty) eliminates the need for fuel refills. And when the economy is completely unburdened by wasteful and expensive fuels, it can cost efficiently provide all the services we require. Between a battery and a high voltage transmission line, we have solar power 24/7. And a car battery is a perfect place to store extra sunlight.

Demand-side flexibility isn't just a buzzword - it's a game-changer. By harnessing the power of smart technologies and real-time data analytics, we're enabling dynamic energy management strategies that adapt to changing demands and conditions. 📊🔌 With demand-side flexibility, industrial players gain the agility to adjust energy consumption in real-time, aligning it with market conditions and grid availability. This not only enhances operational efficiency but also contributes significantly to grid stability and sustainability. 🔌📊 International renewable energy agency's infographic on this presents a broader spectrum in demand flexibility options

It has been released the Energy Technology Perspectives 2024, which maps out the current state of clean energy manufacturing and trade and how they are expected to evolve over time. Two Key points: - the global market for the top six mass-manufactured clean energy technologies (solar PV, wind turbines, electric cars, batteries, electrolysers and heat pumps) is set to rise from $700 billion in 2023 to more than $2 trillion by 2035 – close to the value of the world’s crude oil market in recent years. - Global trade in these clean technologies is also expected to rise sharply. In a decade's time, it more than triples to reach $575 billion, more than 50% larger than the global trade in natural gas today. https://lnkd.in/dJ4X9fXZ #energy #renewable #IEA #globalmarket #technology International Energy Agency (IEA)

Industrialized countries have a long history of standards and incentives to improve industrial efficiency, often pursuing it as a means to improve competitiveness. Policy making for industrial decarbonization, however, has advanced more cautiously, as governments seek to avoid having domestic decarbonization efforts hurt industries’ ability to compete in global markets – and unduly raise end-user prices. These considerations add to the complexity of designing industrial energy policies that can accommodate diverse new industries, across which few “one-size-fits-all” approaches would be effective. New industrial energy efficiency and decarbonizing policies show few advances, amidst broader concerns on supply chain security and competitiveness.
