2 things I learned today from playing around with the amazing character reference (cref) feature in Midjourney. 1. I need to improve the accuracy and detail of my prompts. With enough practice and the right prompt, the images that Midjourney can generate are outstanding. 2. I need to update my LinkedIn profile picture. The prompt for this particular series of images was very simple: /Imagine "a man flying through the air like Superman, photorealistic, film noir style --cref <The URL location of the uploaded image>"

New experiment: "recoloring" black-and-white film 👇 Runway’s Gen-3 provides smooth video-to-video style transfer. But does it work for coloring black-and-white films? I found a 1917 film (in public domain), A Trip Through China, to be my guinea pig. The process was much smoother than image-to-video. It took just 1-3 iterations on Runway to get a usable clip. A major limitation is that it’s not truly coloring the original film. It’s more like regenerating the full content based on the original. Details can easily get lost, so it may not serve for recoloring purposes. However, the positive side is that you control what you generate. Through prompting, you can easily convert an original video into many styles with new elements added. While a door is closed, more windows are wide open.
