⭐ Don't forget to celebrate progress, BIG or small ⭐ In academia, we often wait for big wins, such as publishing a paper, securing a grant, or completing a project, to celebrate our achievements. But every step we take matters, and those small milestones deserve recognition, too. Whether it's submitting a manuscript, supervising a student, or simply starting/progressing on a difficult task: take time to reflect & celebrate these moments! It can help keep us motivated and remind us of the process that shapes us as scientists. So, don't only focus on reaching the goal (and then setting another one directly after), but also acknowledge the journey! I'll do one today: I just submitted a COST Action proposal with >30 proposers from 20 countries. While the outcome has to wait for another 6 months, this moment feels like a victory in itself. Will celebrate the teamwork and dedication tonight with going out for dinner! 👉 TLDR: take a moment to celebrate the small wins in your (academic journey), as they are building blocks of the bigger success!

Always give it a try! You never know if you will win. November 2023, I got a call from my debating society. "Hello Naimot, we have an InterFaculty debate competition coming up, we need two representatives to represent our faculty and go against 11 Faculties on OAU Campus. Immediately, I said I was not interested. I was afraid of failing, I didn't have enough courage to go against strong faculties. But a friend called me behind and asked me to go for it. I was skeptical at first but I later made up my mind to represent my Faculty with my other debater. We started training day and night, rehearsing and practicing was really stressful and rigorous. It got to a point I wanted to stop, what if we did not win after this training? I know I will be heartbroken. 💔 Guess who emerged in Third Position after three rounds of competitions with other Faculty? My Faculty did! I was not only happy because I won, I was happy because I gave it a try. The experience I gained from the competition can not be compared. I'm now fond of my skills, and I know I can do anything I want to achieve. ✨ This is just to tell you that you can do it only if you give it a try. You never know what will happen if never try it out. How do you give it a try? 💡 Have Confidence in yourself and be sure of the skill you have. 💡 Practice and prepare: I don't think we can achieve anything if we do not prepare or practice towards archiving it. 💡 Be ready to face challenges but never allow them to stop you. 💡 Always give it a try. It's Day 7 of the Consistency Challenge with Our Coach Queensley Ojo. Here is an experience that impacts a big change in my life and Career. P.S: Have you ever stopped doing something because you think you will fail? P S: Tell me an experience that impacts a big change in you. #MotivationalTalks #Goforit #Experiencematters #Debating #PublicSpeaking #PersonalBrandingmasterywithQueensley

NEW video out now 🎥 https://lnkd.in/e2AJqsmR A reminder to take time to celebrate your own wins! It’s easy to “get distracted” by all the tasks and focus on what needs to be done to achieve the “big goal” (like the MSc or the PhD) 👉 and then feel down because you are not there yet… Last week, I got a reminder that it is important to zoom out and take a helicopter view (TM Dr Lara McClure) ☺️ By doing that, I was able to see how much I actually did in the last 9 months (for the Annual Progress Review) and indeed for the whole year, because of getting this scholarship, starting the PhD, and all the publications in 2024… Looking ahead, these videos will become a gentle reminder for “future Sandro” - to make sure I keep looking at the full picture and…take time to celebrate my own wins! 😉
Make time to look back and celebrate your achievements! 👈 Lesson from my PhD journey 🎓 (after APR)

This is a compelling example of how the Graduate School's GradFUTURES initiative connects Ph.D. candidates with organizations that need academic research, writing, and editing skills to advance socially beneficial work. Learn more about GradFUTURES Social Impact Fellowships: https://lnkd.in/eQW8HB-g
Chase Padusniak joined FASPE as a GradFUTURES Social Impact Fellow in 2022. He has served as an editor for both the annual journal and monthly newsletter, as well as a fellowship application reader. After earning his PhD in English Literature earlier this year, he continues his involvement with FASPE as the Journal Editor and will soon begin reviewing applications for the 2025 Fellowship. "FASPE has changed my life, Chase shared. “I had no idea how I might apply the academic research, writing, and editing skills I had cultivated while pursuing my PhD. FASPE afforded me a way to put those skills to use outside academe. And not just to put them to use but to write, edit, and research in the name of a positive social good. In these uncertain times, FASPE and organizations like it perform an essential role. It's been my pleasure and honor to assist with FASPE's mission." Princeton GradFUTURES Fellows have also played a key role in shaping FASPE's curriculum, researching cases used in both the Ethical Leadership Trainings and the Fellowship program.

Why it is important to network and work with others to solve problems that matter at the organizations you care about? Needless to say, we care about many organizations: family, schools, work place, hospitals, etc. We organize to make our lives richer and better. As I listen to prize laureates (link below), I get encouraged to work with others to learn from colleagues, to clarify roots of problems and to find effective solutions. Consider asking your colleagues about what they see important to solve and work towards solutions. Let us know what you learned and how it positively impacted others. #ODNOregon https://lnkd.in/eV7ThNaT

The program offers a broad range of perspectives, and it’s a chance to dive into areas you may not have considered before. The theoretical frameworks I learned are invaluable to my daily interactions with students, allowing me to approach my work with a deeper level of insight ~ Tobby Bragdon, M.Ed. '16; Ph.D. '24.

🎉 I’m thrilled to share the success of the panel discussion I recently organized, How PhD Teaching Shapes Future Academic Careers! This event brought together PGRs from the University of Edinburgh Business School and four incredible panelists—Marios Kremantzis, PhD, FHEA, CMBE, AFORS, Mengfei Jiang, Louise Jayne Rowllings, and Jaber Islam—who generously shared their experiences, challenges, and valuable insights on the role of teaching during their PhDs. Key Discussion Points: 📚 Early Teaching Journeys: Panelists reflected on why they started teaching during their PhDs and the training or support they received. 🧑🏫 First Teaching Experiences: We heard honest and inspiring accounts of preparing for their first classes. 🏆 Special Insights: • Louise and Jaber shared their strategies for balancing teaching and research, as well as their experiences winning the Teaching Excellence Award. • Marios and Mengfei, now faculty members at the Universities of Bristol and Edinburgh, provided thoughtful reflections on how teaching during their PhDs shaped their academic careers and continues to inform their current roles. The event received overwhelmingly positive feedback, with attendees appreciating the depth of the discussion and the actionable advice shared by our panelists. A big thank you to our panelists, Louise, Jaber, Marios, and Mengfei, for their time and contributions, and to everyone who attended and participated in the discussion. #PhDLife #Teaching #AcademicCareers #ProfessionalDevelopment
