“Different but not strange” You won’t find any buttons on our new Long Slot Toaster. Instead, it features a touch display, making your toasting experience smooth, intuitive, and perfectly tailored to your morning routine. As you approach the toaster, an OLED display with a motion sensor detects your movement, activating the touch display. When not in use, the display fades into sleep mode, allowing the product to seamlessly blend into your kitchen. At Jacob Jensen, we design products that not only focus on functionality but also delight and surprise you in unexpected ways. Discover our products in Magasin du Nord, Illums Bolighus, Imerco, Bahne, Designforevig, Traktøren, Breuninger, and other select retailers in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands.

James Dyson’s remarkable journey toward creating the world’s first bagless vacuum began in the late 1970s. Frustrated with traditional vacuum cleaners’ poor suction and constant clogging, he set out to find a better solution. His eureka moment came when he noticed a giant cyclone used to eliminate wood dust in a sawmill. Inspired by this industrial cyclone separation system, Dyson embarked on a mission to revolutionize vacuum technology. Over the next 15 years, he tirelessly developed an astounding 5,127 prototypes. Despite facing rejections from manufacturers who clung to their profitable bag-and-filter models, Dyson remained undeterred. His determination paid off when he launched his first successful vacuum, the DC01, under his own brand in 1993. Today, Dyson’s company stands as a global leader in innovative home appliances, renowned for cutting-edge technology and sleek design. In 2023, Dyson reported revenues of approximately $9 billion—a testament to the success born from relentless innovation and unwavering commitment.

The #Lighting industry is ripe for disruption. As someone develops new luminaires and brings them to market, the pressure’s on to always “find the next innovation”. But all too often, we only think of “innovation” in terms of an add-on gizmo. (Equivalent of adding a digital clock or cup holder to name-your-appliance.) It doesn’t help that a lot of merchants think the same way. And when you’re competing with a sea of sameness – a hundred lights and dozens of brands on the shelf with little differentiation – adding a novel gizmo seems like a pretty sane move. Add to that, it costs A LOT to produce a fixture from scratch. So most brands have to source lights “off-the-shelf” from an OEM's existing tooling – resulting in many brands carrying the same light (maybe with a different paint job). Point is, there’s not a lot of room to “innovate” on top of existing tooling – which only exists because it’s middle of the road, with mass appeal. Meanwhile, as Ken Lewis once mentioned, we seemed to have lost our way in terms of controlling and directing light. LED lights today are chock full-o glare; have light temps that feel cold and depressing; mess up our circadian rhythm; and practically only last as long as incandescent bulbs of yore. I don’t really know what true “innovation” would look like for luminaires. But I think the start point would be to throw out the old models, and explore totally new form factors. We’ve been mimicking candle-based lanterns for centuries, and a lot of utilitarian lights continue to mimic linear fluorescent lights that had to be straight and come in 2,4, and 8-foot lengths. And how about really addressing things like circadian rhythm, glare, human health and well-being, and actually making LED drivers that last 10+ years as advertised? Rant over. This post was only for the Lighting folks out there – thanks for reading. Photo courtesy of Home Depot.

I can predict the trendiest sofas this winter using nothing but a magic ball 🔮 ...and a ton of keyword data. (Honestly, that part is more useful than the crystal ball.) *some magic market research trickery commences* This winter, the UK will be getting cosy on: - Cinema Sofas (mainly the DFS Cinesound range) - The Ikea Klippan for 2 - The Ikea Hyltarp - L shaped sofas - fuzzy sofa covers - And all Dusk sofas, by the looks 👀 - Well done, Dusk! They’ll also be prepping for: - Summer - by replacing their outside rattan cushions - Christmas guests by looking at sofa beds Search volume for these terms has grown more in the last 3 months than 5,152 other ‘sofa’ keywords., which gives me a hunch that a trend is brewing. Assess where these can fit in your keyword strategy.
