This study revealed that the first cohort of health information science students has positive attitudes and perceptions of pursuing the course. This is a good indication that the course could attract more students and address the country's current health information challenges. While completing my undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science, majoring in Population Health, I discovered how important a public health approach is to continuing positive health outcomes in Australia. As academics, we must take a step back to acknowledge all the factors influencing health outcomes, including education, socioeconomic status, rurality and indigeneity. In doing this, we are on the path to success in improving the health outcomes of ourselves, and the people around us.
