WalletHub compared more than 800 U.S. colleges and universities across key return-on-investment metrics, including student selectivity, cost and career outcomes, to find the top-performing schools at the lowest costs — with the biggest return. The ranking also considered post-graduation metrics, like student-loan default rates and graduates' earning potential, to assess the long-term value of the education. Upon learning of the demise of Wells College, someone from Elon University commented that "it is not necessarily a bad thing". It most certainly is a bad thing for the students directly impacted by this and the faculty and administrators who are about to lose their jobs. One of the things that has always bothered me about working in higher education is the lack of empathy or understanding when something bad happens to another college or university. https://lnkd.in/eTvN5mrA Today, I learned that I will be joining a growing number of graduates and students who have attended a college that closed. Current Wells College students were given only 12 days' notice that the school is closing before they have to leave campus at the end of the semester, which will leave many in limbo about what happens next. This is not the way to do this.
