We want to say a massive THANKYOU to the @Department of Communities for granting us $10,000 for our new project: Empowering Young Leaders in Disability! This exciting new project is a unique opportunity for young people with disabilities (YPWD) aged 12 – 25, living in regional WA to engage in a face-to-face workshop. Through utilising the lived experience of YPWD, these accessible and fun youth-friendly workshops will empower young leaders who live with disability. This will be delivered through a series of workshops facilitated by other YPWD that target four key elements: -Self-Advocacy -Employment -Sharing Lived -Experience Leadership [ID: The image shows a "Thank You" graphic from YDAN (Youth Disability Advocacy Network). At the top left is the YDAN logo, and in the center, there is a large "Thank You!" text with confetti. Essential Insights: Lainey Feingold’s Updated Analysis on Project 2025 and Its Impact on Disability Rights Lainey examines how Project 2025 could potentially undermine rights, benefits, and long-held values. It’s a must-read for understanding what’s at stake ahead of next Tuesday’s vote. Read the full article and updated analysis here: https://lnkd.in/gCTSvmJq #DisabilityRights #InclusivePolicy
Digital Accessibility since 1995. Author, Negotiator, Lawyer, Keynote Speaker at Law Office of Lainey Feingold
I just updated my post about Project 2025 to include new resources about its impact on disabled people by the Center for American Progress, the Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF), and The Partnership for Inclusive Disaster Strategies. As I wrote in the article first published last July, "Project 2025 is a blueprint for a conservative overhaul of the United States government. It offers a frightening, dystopian vision of an America where people are deprived of rights, benefits, and values we have grown accustomed to." The full article with updates linked after the summary is here. Please share with anyone who needs this information before voting next Tuesday. https://lnkd.in/gCTSvmJq

In an article for the Daily Business Review, our Managing Partner, Rebecca L. Palmer, highlights the significance of July 26th, 1990, when the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed. She emphasizes the importance of teaching children that everyone is unique and deserves respect, using this day to instill values of empathy and acceptance. Rebecca suggests immersing children in environments with disabled individuals to help them confront stereotypes and appreciate their contributions. She recommends engaging with nonprofits like Best Buddies International, CIL, or the Special Olympics. "Encourage kids to ask questions and provide honest, age-appropriate answers about disabilities. Open dialogue is key to correcting misconceptions and promoting understanding," Palmer advises. Today marks the International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPwD), an occasion recognised globally by the United Nations. We would like to invite you to reflect on the following considerations: - The statistics surrounding disability and housing insecurity (www.aihw.gov.au) - The challenges faced by individuals with intellectual disabilities in understanding and navigating the complexities of securing a home. - The scarcity of accessible and disability-friendly rental options. Then consider how much more challenging this situation becomes if one lacks close family or friends for support. At Chances, we assist individuals with the challenges of homelessness through advocacy, collaboration, co-located services and steadfast support. The support of our local community - both individuals and businesses, enables us to continue assisting some of the most vulnerable members of our society. https://lnkd.in/gUtiqbSV

It's been 24 years since the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was passed, a historic U.S. civil rights law that protects the rights of people with disabilities. There's still a lot to be done to create #inclusion! Inclusion can be achieved when people work to break down physical barriers, when services are accessible to everyone, when policies equally benefit all individuals, when communications reach every person, regardless of if they are blind, deaf or have low literacy. I'm on the Board of Kupenda for the Children and recently, Kupenda’s technical team was invited to provide feedback on UNICEF’s new toolkit for Addressing Stigma and Discrimination toward Children and Youth with Disabilities through Social and Behavior Change (SBC). The CEO, Kenyan Director, and Development Director worked closed with global disability and SBC experts to review three modules of the toolkit and provide feedback, based on their 80+ combined years of disability advocacy experience. #DEI #equity #accessibilitymatters Cynthia Bauer, Leonard Mbonani #globalDEI #NationalDisabilityIndependenceDay Read more here:
