In the wake of the pandemic, many companies are reevaluating their remote work policies. While some, like Dell and IBM, are pushing for a return to the office, evidence suggests that fully remote or hybrid models can be more beneficial, especially in information-based sectors like software. Studies indicate that productivity outcomes from remote work are mixed, with some showing gains while others report minimal declines. At Blackbaud, we’ve successfully implemented remote work strategies that prioritize team collaboration and maintain high productivity, leading to significant improvements in various performance metrics. To remain competitive in the talent market, companies need to adapt to employee preferences for remote work. Surveys show that a substantial percentage of workers would consider leaving if forced back to the office full-time. In my view, a hybrid model of two days remote and four days in the office strikes an ideal balance, providing flexibility while fostering in-person collaboration. Organizations that focus on enhancing their remote work culture and supporting their teams can attract and retain top talent in today’s evolving workplace landscape.
