https://lnkd.in/gtRmpw_d Pandit Dishari Chakraborty on Santoor performed Raga Music Puriya Dhyaneshri Jhala Nishaant Singh Pakhawaji Puriya Dhanashree is a raga in Hindustani classical music. It belongs to the Purvi thaat and has been derived from the defining raga of that thaat – Raga Purvi. In Western terms, the notes of Puriya Dhyaneshri correspond to the double harmonic scale with an augmented fourth. Each sruti or the microtonal interval has a definite character; the names manda, candovati, dayavati, ranjani, raudri, krodha, ugra or khsobhini denote their emotional quality which dwells in combination or singly in the notes of the modal scale: thus, dayavati, ranjani and ratika dwell in the Gandhara and each of the notes ( swara ) of the scale in its turn has its kind of expression and distinct psychological or physical effect and can be related to a colour, a mood ( rasa or bhava ), a metre, a deity or one of the subtle centres ( chakra ) of the body. ...Thus for the sringara (amorous or erotic) and the hasya (laughter) rasa, the madhyama and the pancham are used; for the Vira (heroic), raudra (wrathful) and the adbhuta (wondrous), the shadja and the Rishabha; for the bibhatsa (repulsive) and the bhayanaka (fearsome), the dhaivata; and for the karuna (compassionate), the nisada and the Gandhara are used. Every swara stands for a particular definite emotion or mood and has been classified according to its relative importance. It forms a different part of the `person' of the modal scale. #SundayPost Back in 2010s, I attended a few events organized by the Afghani community. Their warmth, friendliness, and captivating acoustic performances left a lasting impression on me. One melody from those concerts stayed in my head, and while humming it, I found myself improvising on the piano. It wasn’t a classical or traditional interpretation of Afghani music, but it was my way of connecting to the inspiration I felt. I recorded the piece and even performed it at my concerts, unsure how it would resonate with others. Almost a decade later, the track was finally released. What amazes me most is that the Afghani people are using it in their social media videos and vlogs, and recognizing elements of their music within it. It’s a humbling reminder of how music can transcend boundaries and create connections we never expected. This experience also reminded me about an important thing on stereotypes. Often, we categorize cultures, ideas, or even people based on our assumptions, limiting the possibilities for meaningful collaboration. When we let go of these preconceived notions and think outside the box, we discover new layers of creativity and connection. Inspiration can come from unexpected places, and by embracing it with an open mind, we allow ourselves to create something that not only reflects who we are but also celebrates the diversity around us. What about you? How has breaking away from stereotypes or thinking differently impacted your work or creativity? #InspirationThroughMusic #CrossCulturalConnection #Diversity #MusicConnects #BreakingStereotypes #ThinkOutsideTheBox #AfghaniInspired #ImitationOfAfghanMusic #ChillPianoElmira https://lnkd.in/eBghzvEU

🖊️ History of Indian Music and the importance of Sargam: Compared to other musical cultures, India has kept its music practice alive, which goes back to Bharata Muni's Bharata Shastra and a few thousand years. India also developed classical music into two different styles: Hindustani classical, which comes from the northwest, and Carnatic classical, which comes from the south. These two types of music are based on Saptaswara, which are the seven notes Sa, Ri, Ga, Ma, Pa, Da, and Ni. #music #classicalmusic #indianmusic

Delighted to share insights into the vibrant melody that is the Indian music industry! With a valuation of 24 billion INR in 2023 and projected growth to 37 billion INR by 2026, it's not just about the numbers but the rich tapestry of culture and innovation. From its roots in Hindustani and Carnatic traditions to the modern-day fusion of genres, India's musical landscape is a testament to diversity. Yet, amidst the digital revolution, Bollywood's influence resonates strongly, shaping listener preferences and market dynamics. Let's not forget the unsung heroes—the informal music sector—where local bands, street performers, and independent musicians weave magic. Worth over a trillion INR in 2022, this sector's contribution is priceless. However, challenges like funding and infrastructure persist. P.S. As we dance to the rhythm of growth, let's harmonize formal and informal sectors, ensuring every note contributes to the symphony of India's musical journey! 🎶 #IndianMusic #IndustryInsights #CultureAndInnovation #ThoughtsfromCEO #VibhorGoel
