Kudos to Tacoma Housing Authority for walking the talk and paying its employees a "housing wage"! $32 an hour is what a household must earn to afford the average monthly rent and utilities for a two-bedroom apartment in Tacoma without paying >30% of income on housing. 40% of all households in Tacoma are either housing cost burdened or extremely housing cost burdened.

"You're a long way from home. What are you doing in *insert state here* ?" We travel a lot, so we hear that question a lot, including today while recruiting at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Tacoma, Washington. The answer to that question is always the same.
