I think this approach makes great sense. 1) DAPT post-LAAOD barely meets non-inferiority for device related thrombosis. 2) there are trials that demonstrate the safety for major bleeds on full dose apixaban is similar to that of aspirin (AVERROES). So I don't think it should come as a surprise that 3 ) low dose apixaban is safer than DAPT and 4) low dose apixaban is good enough to prevent DRT - this needs to be confirmed in larger trials.
