🌟 Attention all Software Engineers! 🌟 In London alone, there are currently 35,000 individuals on here identified as Software Engineers 🖥️ who are eager to find new opportunities. **Only 800 are listed under the more specific title of Java Developer ☕. 🚀 Tip: Stand out in your job search by choosing a descriptive job title for your LinkedIn profile (Whatever your coding language of choice may be). This simple change can significantly increase your visibility for relevant opportunities that match your skills and experience. Don't be a drop in an ocean of software engineers; use a descriptive job title that truly represents your skillset! 💼✨ #JobSearchTips #CareerAdvice #TechJobs #StandOut #BeSeen

Junior level software developers (sub 3 years commercial experience) need to stop applying for senior & technical lead type roles. Im seeing a huge spike in candidates who literally graduated in the last 2 years or recently left General Assembly, applying for senior engineering roles at $200k that were advertising. I know the markets tough right now. But, you're actually doing yourself a dis-service by hitting apply on everything you see on Seek and Linkedin. Im in the process of writing up some information on what I think are true junior/mid/senior/PE & staff level engineering roles are, what their responsibilities are and their salary ranges (which i'll be sharing soon). I feel like the goalposts have already moved massively and a senior engineer now is anyone from 5-7 years. But, most CTOs I know will openly say - a true senior engineer is probably 10 years+ actual commercial experience as this is when you start to have real impact on a project & team and can help other people with confidence. To all you juniors out there - dont give up hope! But, also, what you lack in commercial experience you should be making up for in being pro-active. Take the time to up-skill, go to meetups, find a mentor and link in with talent managers and CTOs.. but dont apply for roles that you know youre not right for. You're unlikely to see junior developer roles advertised for the next 12 months or so, so think about which businesses are right for you stack wise and apply through their site / add a few of the Dev mgrs on Linkedin and be inquisitive/ask a few questions to get a conversation going. If you need some help or advice, i'm always here to chat to people! Email; nick@tekfinder.com.au

The junior software engineer says, "I'll build the solution you described." The mid-level software engineer says, "I'll build a solution for the problem you described." The senior software engineer says, "Are you sure you're solving the right problem?" The principal software engineer says, "Why are we even including technology in this?" (Half-kidding about the last one.) Career progression in software engineering has less to do with technology, and everything to do with asking the right questions, listening, and communicating with stakeholders and developers alike. #career #softwareengineering #development

How to get hired as an entry-level developer in 2024: - Have 5 years of software engineering experience, at least - Solve 1000 LeetCode with your eyes closed - Have the soft skills of a salesperson trying to close a sale - Know at least 10 different programming languages - Have written at least one programming language yourself - Been coding since you were in the womb - Know the system design of at least ten different big-scale applications - Blackmail the interviewer into giving you a job Anything I'm missing? 😂 😭 #developer #softwareengineering #engineers #hiring #hired #findajob

What makes a standout software engineer? In my years working closely with tech talent, I've noticed a few traits that set top engineers apart: Curiosity: The best engineers are lifelong learners, always looking to expand their skill set and challenge themselves with new tech stacks, languages, and frameworks. Collaboration: Working in cross-functional teams, understanding user needs, and translating requirements are essential. Team players bring the magic! Adaptability: Engineers who are adaptable and comfortable in fast-paced environments thrive, whether in a startup, scale-up, or established organisation. Quality over Quantity: Thoughtful, clean, and maintainable code is worth its weight in gold. It's the backbone of long-term success in software products. Speaking of Software Engineers, I'm looking to speak with C# .NET Fullstack Developers in Derby this week! #SoftwareEngineering #TechTalent #Recruiting #Hiring #SoftwareEngineers

While live coding challenges may be an effective assessment for hiring entry level software engineers, is it equally effective for hiring more experienced developers? According to Morgan McKinley, there are at least 5 downsides of using coding tests for evaluating skills: "Most coding tests are often used to evaluate a candidate’s knowledge of algorithms. While algorithmic skills are foundational for most developers, they have little bearing on someone’s actual programming ability. Therefore, a candidate could ace your coding test but still perform poorly as a programmer. Another could perform poorly on such tests but be a great developer." https://lnkd.in/grnNK2zS.
