#breakingnews- new research from UT Health Houston has located that: after children experienced Severe Traumatic Brain Injury, the infusion of bone marrow mononuclear cells derived from the patient’s own bones led to less time spent in intensive care, less intense therapy, and, significantly, the structural preservation of white matter. Which constitutes about half the total volume of the brain. Traumatic Brain Injury is a leading cause of death and acquired disability around the world. This finding regarding clinical, neuroimaging, and functional outcomes give hope regarding the potential of cellular therapy to reduce chronic neurobehavioral problems and improve quality of life for children and adolescents after sustaining brain injury. In prior newsletters, we’ve discussed research strategies that bring hope to persons with severe disabilities after a major brain injury. We’ve discussed research focused on creating and transplanting new brain cells to replace damaged tissue. We’ve reviewed progress towards stimulating the brain to regrow and rewire itself as it seeks to compensate for damage. We’ve explored evidence that the brain can be induced to regenerate new connections. Read more at https://bit.ly/3xzQxZO #TBI #BrainRegeneration #BrainInjury #BCIs

For those of you who have been following me, you know how incredibly excited I have become on approaching a variety of brain disorders utilizing trans cranial light therapy and have had world class experts like Dr Paulo Cassano and Dr Michael Hamblin on the podcast. Here is another study demonstrating the potential of this modality. This study tested whether transcranial photobiomodulation (tPBM), a non-invasive light therapy applied to the scalp, could improve cognitive function and increase serum BDNF levels (a protein important for brain health) in adults over 50. It was designed as a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, meaning participants were randomly assigned to receive either real or placebo treatment, and neither the participants nor the researchers knew who received which. The results showed that tPBM led to better cognitive performance and higher BDNF levels compared to the placebo group. #LightTherapy #photobiomodulation #DrSinicropi

Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) can vastly improve the quality of life for patients with movement disorders like Parkinson’s disease, but is currently underutilised. Hear from Francesca Morgante, consultant neurologist, professor of Neurology, and the Eleanor Peel Chair for the study of Aging at St George’s University of London, and Vincent Sourdaine, Vice President of Neuromodulation, EMEA, at Boston Scientific, about the status of Parkinson’s Disease and its treatments. By examining the full procedure and how it can be optimised to accelerate planning and programming, time can be freed for both physician and patient. https://lnkd.in/dMAR3-5H #BSCEMEA

🩺#Startle_epilepsy 🌟 #Startle_epilepsy is a rare form of epilepsy comprising of seizures that occur both spontaneously and induced by unexpected, sudden, multimodal simulations ( mainly auditory, but also sensory, visual). 🌟 #Startle_seizure are brief, symmetrical, and include axial tonic posturing (frequently resulting into traumatic falls). Additional features include autonomic signs, automatism, laughter, and jerks. 🌟 Most patients with #startle_epilepsy are young and have preexisting brain disease such as infantile cerebral hemiplegia, diffuse or localized static brain encephalopathy from different causes. 🌟 Few studies have shown that #startle_seizures arise from the medial pre-motor pre-frontal structures such as the supplementary motor area (#SMA), pre-SMA, and anterior cingulate cortex. #synapse #ILAE_Academy #Epilespy
