Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with the newly appointed Prime Minister of Japan H.E. Mr. Shigeru Ishiba today on the sidelines of the ASEAN-India Summit in Laos. Our Prime Minister congratulated Prime Minister Ishiba on his new responsibility and wished him success in leading Japan to greater heights. He underscored that India will continue to accord the highest priority to its ties with Japan, a trusted friend and strategic partner. The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership through enhanced cooperation in a wide range of areas including trade and investment, infrastructure development, defense and security, semiconductors, skilling, culture and people to people exchanges. There are a Few Striking Parallels between Nehru's & Modi's Relations with the US As Prime Minister Narendra Modi completes his ninth visit to the United States since 2014, some striking parallels between his and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s missions to that country become apparent. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been far more successful with the United States than Nehru could ever be. This is to a large part due the tectonic geopolitical changes that have occurred since Nehruvian times. The world today, despite being overshadowed by a global hegemon in the form of the United States, is fast turning multipolar with the rise of China, the re-emergence of Russia and the rise of several smaller powers, including India.
