XYZ is a packaged goods company. Their business is developing well and gaining market share thanks to their product strategy, wide product range, and variant offerings. However, this growth brings new challenges and requires new internal operational decisions, as their current approach to #packaging doesn’t allow them to be as agile and scalable as they wish. ➡ 1. XYZ’s portfolio has been proliferating over the last few years to stand out and follow consumer trends. Now, the portfolio tail is significant, creating complexity in the related processes. It is consuming capacity due to frequent changes and occupying resources that would otherwise be focused on business goals. The required capacity surge does not justify new investments, and it is anticipated that additional packing lines will not be utilized effectively, especially in the low season. Additionally, resources need to be mobilized to pursue critical business goals #2 and #3. ➡ 2. XYZ sees an opportunity in the market and aims to expand their product proposition; however, this requires a different type of packaging that is not supported by their current packing capabilities. They need to act quickly to capture this market opportunity. Investment will take time and resources, which are necessary for marketing this new product. Such investment also implies business risks in case the new product introduction does not take off as expected. ➡ 3. XYZ has public packaging goals aimed at improving packaging sustainability. They have identified several directions and need to conduct pilots to assess consumer acceptance and collect market data to finalize their sustainable packaging strategy, budget for equipment investments, and adjust packaging sourcing. ➡ So, what can XYZ do if the final packaging direction is uncertain due to multiple goals and missing inputs, investment choices are not yet clear, and lost time equals lost sales? They can find a co-packer to: - Outsource current packaging complexity to free up internal resources and avoid investments. - Gain speed for new product launches in new packaging formats. - Experiment with new (more sustainable) packaging formats and materials without incurring in-house investment risks. - Buy time for internal decisions regarding resource allocation and investments associated with their packaging evolution and changes. - Achieve cost efficiency across their operations while enabling business expansion. *** ➡ Are you interested in co-packing opportunities?
