As a follow up to how dull I am, something of a new pet project; what are the weirdest oddities and strange design choices on UK roads? One contender and sure to raise some hackles is... ⚠ the countries shortest section of double yellow lines⚠ This is definitely a hot topic, with many authorities scrambling to claim the title of most overbearing parking control! Routinely, a regional (and sometimes national) news article will appear with claims of finding the shortest section. They can't all be right. So where is the real shortest section of double yellows? More often than not, a short section of double yellow lines appears because of recent or ongoing resurfacing, where the majority of the existing markings have been removed and only a short section remains. To really qualify, the markings have to be intentionally short. Riveting stuff. For your consideration... Contestant No. 1 - King Street, Cambridge City Centre (circa 2017) Length - 24 inches (circa 61cm) There's something to be said for the pedanticism of tiny parking regulation. Theres something else to be said for someone that documents them! Feel free to send in your examples of road oddities and niggly parking control.
