Touchdown Lagos. Yesterday was a super proud moment for me in Lagos. I was at the private screening of the Founders Connect documentary titled “Innovating Africa: The Rise of Tech in Nigeria.” The documentary covers the state of the tech industry 15 years ago, why the biggest tech companies were founded, and the most pivotal moments and policies that have defined tech in Nigeria. It features many key players, including Kola Aina, Odun Eweniyi, Olumide Soyombo, Tomie Davies, Jason Njoku & more. It is the proud work of Executive Producer & Creator – Peace Itimi Itimi, directed by the award-winning Nora Awolowo , and produced by Joyce Imiegha. It discussed, the achievements, stakeholders, the key impact of some milestones that caused the startup ecosystem in Nigeria to evolve in the past two decades: ✅ The proliferation of mobile internet and telcos in Nigeria. ✅ The emergence of Angel and VC funding both internationally and locally. ✅Media players like TechCabal , Techpoint Africa telling the stories and changing the narrative. ✅ The impact of regulators from SEC to CBN, NITDS, NCC and delivery of policies like the startup bill. It is clear that Venture Capital was an enabler of risk in this vibrant market, allowing the initial founders to experiment and scale. Thus delivering some of the unicorns we know today in the Nigerian Market: Flutterwave , Paystack , and locally founded players like MainOne , Interswitch Group that grew to become Pan-African giants. I am looking forward to the next phase–the need for these startups to be sustainable and create long-term value beyond valuations—a phase where investing is no longer just foreign. A phase where we have locals investing and funding these startups beyond early stage, into seed and scale—Nigerians investing in Nigerian startups. I am eagerly waiting to see this documentary on the big screens: Netflix , Amazon Prime this should be a no brainer. It is a truly educative watch for any investor, stakeholder, or talent interested in the Nigerian Market. PS: Great to see good friends like Ifeanyi AKOSIONU of AngelA Investment and my metamate Osaruemen! #InnovatingAfricaDocumentary # #startups #founders
