Building a strong foundation of faith and purpose in children is a journey that begins at home. God has entrusted parents with the role of role of helping our children discover and grow in faith and purpose. This is an incredible assignment because it determines how that child will turn out in life. But where do we start?
Here are a few ways to nurture a spiritual connection and sense of purpose in your child’s life.
🔸️Model Faith in Everyday Actions: As parents we are the first pastors, evangelists, and mentors to our children. And because they learn best by example, we have to show them what it means to live with purpose and faith by letting them see you practice it in your everyday life.
🔸️ Create Space for Questions: Children love to ask questions, so we have to encourage them to ask questions about God, purpose, and life. Creating a safe space for these conversations allows them to grow spiritually and feel confident in their faith.
🔸️Teach the Value of Purposeful Service: Show them ways to serve others and explain the importance of compassion and empathy. Purpose grows stronger when children understand how they can make a difference.
🔸️Share Stories from Scripture and Life: Tell them stories from the Bible and your own experiences that show how faith has guided people through challenges and success alike. Relatable stories help faith feel accessible and real.
🔸️Pray Together Regularly: Take time for shared prayers. This practice helps children see that they can turn to God in both joyful and challenging moments.

9moChildren are naturally curious. It’s the same as them asking why on every other thing. We definitely need to be open and honest and create safe spaces so that anyone including children can ask questions and get answers at their level of understanding. Encourage curiosity even if we don’t know the complete answer ourselves.
