𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘀: 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 In a world marked by economic upheaval and global conflicts, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: strong leadership is essential. But even more crucial in these times are empathy and a solid foundation of values. I’m reminded of a story from a physics class: A teacher asked, “Does cold exist?” A student replied, “Cold doesn’t exist. It’s simply the absence of warmth. Likewise, darkness is the absence of light.” The student then asked, “Does hatred exist?” The answer: “Hatred is just the absence of love and empathy. Just as cold arises when warmth is missing, hatred arises when leadership lacks heart and values.” This metaphor is more relevant than ever. Leaders today must not only make clear decisions but also embody values and humanity. Clear direction is vital, but without empathy and a strong moral compass, “darkness” emerges — a space where conflict and division thrive. In times of uncertainty and global challenges, we need leaders who not only chart a course but also ignite the light of values and the warmth of empathy. These qualities are what build trust, unite teams, and lead to lasting success. Clarity in leadership is essential. But it is empathy and values that ultimately make the lasting difference — in business, in society, and in the world.

The old model of leadership, where the leader is expected to be an infallible hero, is no longer relevant in today's world. We're facing complex challenges that require collaboration, creativity, and emotional intelligence. Leaders who cling to the old model risk alienating their teams and stifling innovation. You're absolutely right Roberto Ferraro , fear is a major obstacle. Fear of vulnerability, fear of chaos, and fear of failure can prevent leaders from embracing a more human approach. But as you say, acknowledging these fears and actively working to overcome them is essential. Here are some additional strategies for becoming a better leader: Cultivate self-awareness: This involves understanding your strengths, weaknesses, and emotional triggers. Tools like journaling, meditation, and feedback from trusted colleagues can be invaluable. Practice empathy: Make a conscious effort to understand the perspectives and emotions of others. Active listening, asking open-ended questions, and demonstrating genuine care are key. Embrace vulnerability: Share your own experiences, challenges, and even failures with your team. This builds trust and encourages others to do the same. Foster psychological safety: Create an environment where people feel comfortable taking risks, expressing ideas, and making mistakes without fear of judgment or retribution. Prioritize connection: Make time for meaningful interactions with your team members, both individually and collectively. This could involve regular one-on-ones, team-building activities, or simply informal conversations. Develop your emotional intelligence: This involves recognizing and managing your own emotions, as well as understanding and responding effectively to the emotions of others. Becoming a human leader is a journey, not a destination. It requires ongoing effort, self-reflection, and a willingness to learn and grow. But the rewards – a more engaged, motivated, and innovative team – are well worth it. To further address the fears mentioned: Fear of appearing weak: Vulnerability is not weakness. It takes strength to acknowledge your limitations and seek support. Fear of chaos: A human-centered approach doesn't mean sacrificing structure or productivity. It's about finding a balance between clear expectations and a supportive environment. Fear of failing: Failure is inevitable. The key is to view it as a learning opportunity and create a culture where it's safe to fail and learn from mistakes. 🚫 Stop being a hero 🚫 As we wrap up the week, here's a reminder: we don’t need to be “hero leaders.” Success doesn’t mean solving everything on your own, never showing weakness, or having all the answers. The best leaders? They embrace vulnerability, empower others, and know when to ask for help. 🌟 💡 Rome wasn’t built in a day—and it certainly wasn’t built by one person! Whether at work or in life, stop trying to do it all. Instead, focus on: 1️⃣ Building connections—lean on your team, family, or community. Support creates success. 2️⃣ Letting go of perfection—lead with empathy, not invincibility. 3️⃣ Facing fear with courage—as Will Smith says, “If you can’t beat the fear, just do it scared.” This perspective has been a game-changer for me, both as a professional and as a mother. Enduring leadership… As leaders, we must take action—even when we’re uncertain about the best course. We can’t afford to wait for circumstances to shift, or those circumstances will end up shaping us. Now is the moment for enduring leadership. 1. Anticipate…Look ahead to what’s coming. We don’t need to be visionaries attempting to predict the future. Instead, we must clearly understand the reality of today. This present moment serves as the foundation for building a future vision that others have yet to imagine. 2. Adjusting course in real time, navigation works hand in hand with anticipation. Together, they help maintain balance. Navigation is a present-moment activity, requiring agility and timely adjustments. It’s both proactive and intentional. 3. Communicate Constantly. This is where leadership thrives. As leaders, we embody both the message and the messenger. When our words inspire trust, our actions will inspire belief. 4. Listen to what we may not want to hear. We were given two ears and only one mouth for a reason—a reminder that we should listen twice as much as we speak. 5. Change is one of the best catalysts for learning. It pushes us to draw on past experiences and apply them to new, unfamiliar challenges—a concept known as learning agility. 6. Lead—influencing others to believe and empowering them to turn that belief into reality. None of us have control over the era we live in. As a CEO of a large healthcare system recently told me, “Years ago, I recognized that it is within ambiguity—uncertainty, crisis, and risk—that opportunities arise. Control, in reality, is just an illusion.” However, leadership is not, and that’s exactly what we all need right now.
