🎁 What a privilege! A privilege to be in a situation, where posting something on LinkedIn is actually something I have the luxury to think about. And not having to worry about how to feed my children or finding some sort of cure to an injury. When I think about my very privileged life, I keep wondering how I can use fact that I am a winner of the birth lottery to make at least a small contribution to the improvement of the life of others. This year, I was made aware of the non-profit organization "Street Child". They work to bring access to 🎒 education to children in some of the poorest countries on earth. The annual 🇸🇱 Sierra Leone Marathon 🇸🇱 is an event, in which participants don't only compete in a race, but more importantly, get in contact with people behind the scenes of the important projects, like building and running schools, family business loans and other initiatives. As participants, we (and yes - I will join, for the 21k distance "only", though) are committed to bringing awareness and support to the cause and raise some funds to further improve the lives of people, who deserve a chance to also pursue a dream. “Do we donate to feel good, or to make a real impact?” With the holiday season upon us, our mailboxes are filling with donation appeals, raising familiar questions: Where should I donate? What impact will my contribution truly have? In a recent interview with annabelle, Fritz Brugger, Co-Director of NADEL, dives into the complexities of effective giving and the ethics of global cooperation. Learning Circle #Charity #Run 2024 - Virtual Race Da mir die Bildung unseres Nachwuchses wichtig ist, darf ich folgendes teilen: Matthias Stiedl, ein guter Freund von mir, betreibt ein Unternehmen (Learning Circle), welches gratis Lernbegleitung für ALLE Schüler*innen (unabhängig von der finanziellen Situation der Eltern) anbietet/ermöglicht. Aufgrund eines unerwarteten Ausfalls öffentlicher Fördergelder, können die Kosten für die gratis Lernplätze leider nicht mehr alleine getragen werden. Das hat zur Folge, dass viele Kinder kurz davor stehen, ihren Lernplatz zu verlieren. Damit so viele Kinder wie möglich ihre Lernbegleitung weiterführen können, bis eine neue Fördermöglichkeit gefunden ist, wird am 04.04.2024 ein Charity-Lauf organisiert!   Das ganze ist virtuell, d.h. jeder läuft dann, wann es für ihn oder sie am besten passt und so weit wie es für ihn oder sie gerade möglich ist. Am Ende werden die Daten der Laufuhr o.ä. als Beleg (z.B. Screenshot) für den Lauf hochgeladen. "Sport has the power to change lives," they say. And that is precisely the core of ALBA JUGEND.     For 18 years, the organisation has been giving children the chance to get more out of themselves through sport and to develop their potential. The club's social programme was born out of the idea of giving children access to sport and thereby more participation in society.    Today, with over 120 dedicated youth coaches, we reach 15,000 children every week - an impressive testimony to what passion and dedication can achieve.     But why is this support so important?      ALBA BERLIN Basketballteam makes an outstanding contribution to society and has become an important social player getting children moving not only in Berlin, but also internationally in Hong Kong and Singapore.     It's about more than just sport. It's about showing children that they can make a difference - regardless of their social or economic background. Each child's success is a triumph over life's challenges.     We know that we can't change everyone's fate. But is that a reason not to even try? TODAY, PeaceJam UK (the charity I work with) has the chance to #MoveAMillion PeaceJam UK raises some of its funds through an online fundraising platform called GlobalGiving! Today - they are running a campaign called Giving Tuesday and we are taking part to raise money for our brand new project 'Be the Change!'. As part of this Global Giving campaign and their #MoveAMillion bonus match—the more you give on the day, the larger the share PeaceJam UK receives. Using a leaderboard with all active projects across Global Giving taking part, the percentage of the total amount raised by a PeaceJam UK project on the 3rd of December will be the percentage of the match fund we receive for that project. This year GlobalGiving are offering $750,000 in incentive funds! This project will empower 10,000 youth to undertake positive change in themselves and in their communities, providing a solution to increasing community conflict and apathy, with youth leading the way to change the world. Our 'Be the Change!' project harnesses the powerful near-peer experience that takes place between university student mentors and young people aged 11-18. Training mentors to deliver interactive workshops and support youth-led social action in schools and youth groups across the UK. Many families barely have anything to eat. As international aid is in massive decline since three years now, children and their families particularly are being hit hard.
