On the eastern front, relations with India have long been mired in hostility, particularly over the Kashmir issue. The very presence of India and Pakistan within the same bloc offers a unique space for indirect engagement, especially considering that Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar will be physically attending the summit. Although the likelihood of immediate breakthroughs remains slim, the summit allows Pakistan to advocate for peaceful resolutions and de-escalation.

Trending Meme of the Day ! but a worrying thing for us. The hurried and rather unceremonious departure of Sheikh Hasina from Bangladesh hasn’t just wrong-footed the Indian government but also left it faced with possibly the biggest foreign policy challenge in the neighbourhood in recent times. From India's perspective, despite her many failings and an increasingly untenable position in domestic politics, Hasina acted as a source of regional stability by keeping religious extremists and anti-India forces under check. While India will hope that the army will have a moderating influence on the new government, there’s still a lot it will be concerned about. Political stability in Bangladesh under Hasina allowed India to focus on economic development in the country which is seen by the government also as an indispensable partner in the development of its own northeastern region. The development partnership with focus on energy and connectivity flourished. It allowed India to have cooperative and peaceful border management mechanisms along the 4000-km border with Bangladesh, and address issues related to drug and human trafficking and fake notes. India will be concerned about how such initiatives are impacted as the new government in Dhaka takes over. With Hasina’s exit, India will be worried about how the new government will handle what both sides saw till now as shared strategic concerns and interests. #India #Bangladesh #Meme

Post the swearing-in of the new government at New Delhi, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh was the first to undertake a bilateral state visit to India. The event was not an unexpected one, given the fact that Bangladesh has been one of our most consistent neighbours, especially since Sheikh Hasina did come to power. The range of issues addressed were both diverse and of import for the two countries, the region and the Indo-Pacific. There is adequate confluence in the approaches of the two countries on issues like the rules based order and approach to contentious aspects between countries in the region. Issues of concern like water sharing, connectivity, SEZs near the borders, trade and commerce, free movement of people across the border were discussed. Trade through India with Nepal and Bhutan, power and energy collaboration and trading electricity regionally were some of the major areas of focus. The Indian apprehension of Bangladesh-China relationship and its possible impact on India-Bangladesh relations perturbs Indian strategic thinkers. India is capable of substantially aiding the armed forces of Bangladesh in their modernization programs. There is a major role that the Indian defence industry, both private and government can play. The other issue of concern is the gradual rise of extremism in Bangladesh. Of course, Sheikh Hasina's zero tolerance for terror and radicalism, has been able to keep inimical forces subdued so far. India's unwavering support for former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, even after her ousting amid widespread protests, raises significant concerns about our foreign policy and its implications for regional relations. By providing refuge to Hasina, who faces serious charges in her home country, India risks being perceived as interfering in Bangladesh's internal affairs, potentially fostering anti-India sentiments among our neighbors. This stance not only strains diplomatic ties but also challenges India's image as a proponent of democratic values. Supporting a leader accused of authoritarianism and human rights violations contradicts our nation's commitment to democracy and justice. Moreover, such actions could alienate the Bangladeshi populace, who may view India's involvement as undermining their sovereignty and democratic aspirations. It's crucial for India to reassess its position, considering the long-term impact on bilateral relations and regional stability. Aligning our foreign policy with the democratic will of neighboring countries not only upholds our ethical standards but also fosters mutual respect and cooperation. By reevaluating our support for Hasina, we can demonstrate respect for Bangladesh's internal processes and contribute positively to regional harmony.

India's stance that the revocation of Article 370 is an internal matter, while also recognizing the need for diplomatic engagement with Pakistan over Kashmir, does seem contradictory and problematic. India would need to articulate a more consistent position that either fully embraces Kashmir as an internal matter, thereby delegitimizing Pakistan's claims, or acknowledges the need for diplomatic engagement with Pakistan to resolve the broader dispute. Mixing these two contradictory stances weakens India's overall position and messaging on the issue.

Shashi Tharoor’s Call for Non-Intervention: A Timely Reminder for India Indian politician Shashi Tharoor recently expressed concern over India's tendency to entangle itself in the internal affairs of neighboring countries, like Bangladesh. His remarks highlight an essential diplomatic principle: respecting the sovereignty of other nations. Tharoor emphasized that such actions do not go unnoticed by the global community, as outsiders can clearly discern meddling and its consequences. This perspective is particularly relevant in light of reports and allegations of interference in Bangladesh's domestic matters. While India’s regional influence is undeniable, Tharoor's caution serves as a reminder that lasting relationships are built on mutual respect, not dominance. For India, focusing on collaboration rather than control could not only strengthen regional ties but also enhance its reputation as a responsible global power. The world is watching, and as Tharoor suggests, it will continue to do so. #bangladeshhighcommision A recent violent attack on the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, Tripura, involved protesters breaching the premises and damaging property, reportedly in response to issues involving minority communities in Bangladesh. The incident has been described as "deeply regrettable" by India’s Ministry of External Affairs. #context #news #ShashiTharoor #india #Bangladesh #politics https://lnkd.in/gikfpF7w

Revisiting my analysis with #StratNewsGlobal on 25 Jan 2023. Nepal's Political and Security situations Nepal’s new government may not last even though it has brought together the communist flock under one tent. It may not be long before Prime Minister Prachanda finds the rug pulled from under his feet. Clearly, the personal ambitions of leaders may take precedence over ‘Red Unity’. This does not augur well for Nepal’s political stability, and less so for its economy, which has seen little investment and is heavily dependent on remittances from Nepalis working abroad. There are implications also for Nepal’s relations with China, that could go forward. India may play the waiting game, preferring that its projects in Nepal do the talking. But Delhi will not rest easy given the pro-China orientation of the government. https://lnkd.in/gUYF_Q_7

India's relationship with Bangladesh under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has come under scrutiny amid the current political turmoil in Bangladesh. Hasina, who has had a long-standing and cooperative relationship with India, particularly concerning regional security and economic ties, now faces widespread protests in Bangladesh.https://https://lnkd.in/dZ6iyriw. The situation has raised concerns in India, especially given Hasina's close ties with New Delhi. The Indian government has been cautious in its approach, offering refuge to Hasina after her ouster and maintaining communication with the Bangladesh Army to ensure stability. 【. https://lnkd.in/dZ6iyriw However, the protests against Hasina, which have included anti-India sentiments, have caused discomfort for New Delhi. Some factions within Bangladesh see Hasina’s proximity to India as a sign of undue foreign influence, further complicating bilateral relations
