We examine statements from contemporary Christian leaders and contrast them with Jesus' own words, affirming His connection to the God of the Old Testament. We discuss the importance of the Old Testament in understanding Jesus' mission and character, and how dismissing it undermines the foundation of the New Testament. So, join us as we uncover the continuity between the Old and New Testaments and reaffirm the worthiness of God in both. #bible #biblestudy #spiritualleadership #spiritualdevelopment https://lnkd.in/exP7g4wY

Matthew 5:16 in the New International Version (NIV) of the Bible states: "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." This verse is part of the Sermon on the Mount, where Jesus teaches about the characteristics and responsibilities of his followers. The key points of this verse are: 1. **Let Your Light Shine:** This metaphorical language encourages believers to live in a way that reflects their faith and values. The "light" represents the good qualities, actions, and influence of a believer. 2. **Good Deeds:** These are the actions and behaviors that demonstrate one's faith and ethical standards. The verse emphasizes that good deeds should be visible to others. 3. **Glorify God:** The ultimate purpose of these actions is not to gain personal praise or recognition, but to honor and glorify God. The good deeds of believers are meant to lead others to recognize and appreciate God's goodness. In essence, Matthew 5:16 teaches that Christians should live out their faith openly and positively, influencing others through their actions in a way that brings glory to God.

Today's sermon is "Why Eve? Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” (Genesis 3:1 NIV) As we continue our study in Genesis 3:1–10 we want to ask ourselves what it was about Eve that caused the serpent to choose her for his attack. Why didn’t he start with Adam? What signals did Eve send that indicated she was the easier target? Perhaps it was because she had second hand knowledge about the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Adam got the command directly from God which may have made him a more difficult target. So the serpent went after the one who had to rely on the words of another rather than on the words of the one who had actually gotten the command directly from the source. She could have relied on the word God that she learned from Adam, but she didn’t. Today many of us would like to have a firsthand experience with God. We long for an audible voice to speak out of the clouds or a bright light to overpower us, but that may not happen. However, like Eve we are no less responsible. You and I have the Word of God in Scripture. We have that ultimate Word of God in Jesus Christ, the Word that was made flesh and now lives in us because of our faith in him. We also have God’s continuing presence in the form of the Holy Spirit, who guides us into all truth, who helps us know when God is speaking. Hopefully we will be found among those who do not have to have the miraculous but are satisfied with the Word of God available to us. From the standpoint of obedience to that Word, the signals we send must be certain signals about our faith in and commitment to Jesus Christ. Satan will find no easy targets among us, even if our reports are second hand
