As we come to the close of this beautiful SMILE campaign, today's pin is for someone who serves the islanders and represents our island's best interest. (This isn't a political post!) The Chief Minister kindly agreed to come and speak to the 745 Breakfast Club last week and I took the opportunity to jump on him and pin him a SMILE. One of the toughest jobs in the world is serving a whole and diverse community so today, I'd like to say thank you Lyndon Farnham for your services... Do you consider recent reviews before making consumer decisions? The recent events at Bury St. Edmunds might make you reflect on that. Someone was arrested on suspicion of #modernslavery servitude, and forced or compulsory labour under the Modern Slavery Act. Two women were safeguarded. The reviews of this establishment make for interesting reading in the light of recent circumstances. Modern Slavery can happen where you are. It is why Hope for Justice and Slave-Free Alliance deliver Modern Slavery Awareness training to spot the signs. Do you realize how close modern slavery is to you? The picture below depicts the actual local shops where this happened. It looks so familiar to many communities throughout the UK. Imagine we could all be given x-ray goggles that allowed us to see where and when modern slavery and human trafficking was taking place. For the most of it, modern slavery would be happening in the most familiar of places, in the mundanity, rather than the expected spectacularised zones that exist far from our comfort-zones. This is how modern slavery exists, through camouflage, by taking the places we are all used to, and putting exploitation right beneath our noses.

Action for Race Equality Thank you so much for inviting #ShaneSmith who has been significantly impacted by this grave historic injustice and I. Shane has constantly felt like he was alone, knew no other person affected, until he heard the stories of others in person. My takeaway was Dawn Butler MP statement to all potential claimants who have been affected by this injustice: 'There is no shame in your claim'. #LiverpoolAdvocatesForWindrush asks of the #MPs and #Parliament are: 1. Why are the same pieces of legislative instruments that caused this harm, are the same pieces of instruments that are used to not only create the Windrush Schemes but assess claimants' applications, since those instruments were created to exclude minority ethnicities to/in the UK? 2. Why is the rhetoric and actions only dealing with the symptoms of this issue and not the root cause - the legislative instruments? 3. Why not Call for amendments, repeal or changes to the immigration rules, if as #AmberRudd stated in 2018, that she wanted to 'right the wrongs' against the Windrush Generation and their Descendants? 4. Why not in light of that statement, grant the Windrush Generation and their Descendants 'Amnesty'? #WindrushAmnesty 5. And finally, why is there not information/data on the successful EU claimants countries of origin tot he Windrush Schemes? According to the Home Office data factsheet, EU citizens are and have been, the most successful claimants to the schemes. However, not one EU country is listed anywhere! The schemes list 65 Commonwealth countries (they are only 56 with the other 9 being dominions and dependent territories). Not one of those 65 is an EU country. Why? We implore the Labour Party (UK) to let 'Change Begins' through action and not just words! Show the minority residents (#WindrushGenerationAndTheirDescendants) who have been wronged by successive legislative measures and governments from 1948 onwards, that you mean what you say and are prepared to follow through!!! Stop #RacismAndDiscrimination based on a protected characteristic under the #EqualityAct2010. Finally (begin to) Right The Wrong! #WindrushJusticeForAll #EqualityAndEquity #LiverpoolAdvocatesForWindrush
⚖️ We are thrilled to be in #Parliament today for our parliamentary event: An Agenda for #WindrushJustice - fairer, faster and more just treatment for survivors of the Home Office Scandal. Thank you to Florence Eshalomi and Paulette Hamilton MP for hosting this important conversation with survivors of the Scandal; grassroots advocates on our #WindrushJusticeProgramme & MPs and policy makers. 🗣 We come together hear why it's time for government to offer #WindrishLegalAid, and move towards a more #considered approach to remedying the harms of the Scandal. Great to see so many interested parties ready to engage and commit to #WindrushJustice. More on this to follow. Absolutely. The first step to any recovery is admittance. The willful knowledge to accept full responsibility for one’s own actions or deeds, be it intentional or unintentional, the willingness to accept and admit that there is/was a wrong is critical. Until we can get said voices and powers to openly acknowledge this fact, then we are a long ways away from initiating any kind of healing. We all know (some) of the truths and we concur that something was done inappropriately and there has to be precise actions taken to right the wrong! We have the evidence, we have the documented truths, we have the data and everything else necessary for the burden of proof. Either we come to terms and pull together as one and do the right thing, or we stay divided from within and suffer! How can two walk together, except they agree? A house (country/ community) divided against itself CANNOT stand! A promise not just a nice quote.🙏🙏🙏
I’m looking for a role as a Policy Director at a nonprofit that has a focus on marginalized communities
