Thanks, Margo Lynn Hablutzel, for your interesting IP article!
Just in time for the Illinois State Bar Association's Midyear Meeting, the ISBA Intellectual Property Section newsletter came out today with my article "Can You Register a Country Name for Trademark?" as the front-page headline! I thought it would be filler on an internal page, but I guess the combination of Mozart, chocolate, kangaroos, koalas, Chicago-style pizza, and Sweden's application to EUIPO - European Union Intellectual Property Office was more interesting than I thought. Newsletter is available only to IP Section members, but the website that triggered it is: https://lnkd.in/d-vNEdZK

I'm excited to share that I've contributed an article for the MCCQ monthly publication on the Australian Taiwan Art Exchange Exhibition in Taiwan! I recently returned from an incredible trip to Taiwan, where I had the pleasure of participating in a group exhibition with 16 talented artists from both Taiwan and Australia. The exhibition, held in the beautiful city of Tainan, showcased a diverse range of artistic expressions and cultural connections. In my article, I delve into the vibrant art scene of Tainan, the cross-cultural exchange, and the amazing experiences I had during the exhibition. I've also included some images from the event, capturing the essence of this artistic journey. I hope you enjoy reading about this fantastic cultural exchange as much as I enjoyed writing about it! 📖🖌️ #ArtExchange #CulturalExchange #TaiwanArt #AustralianArt #MCCQ #ArtExhibition #Tainan #ArtistJourney #ArtPublication https://lnkd.in/gaBiurXY

Echoes of Endings Art Exhibition 14.11.2024 – 12.1.2025, Brinkkala gallery, Turku, Finland. 🎬 Watch the video: https://lnkd.in/dxG4KGws The moment one becomes a refugee, the immediate desire is to end the search for refuge – to conclude the phase of seeking and finally find a place of safety. This longing is the driving force behind embarking on such an uncertain journey. But does refugeehood ever truly end? If so, how, when, and where? If not, why? ‘Echoes of Endings’ is an exhibition that explores these questions through the visual and audio art of Rewan Kakil and the poetry of Ahmed Zaidan. In total, 2323 people saw this exhibition in Brinkkala. This exhibition is part of the art and research project ‘Endings – Refuge, Time, and Space’ conducted at the Migration Institute of Finland (funded by the Kone Foundation, 2023–2026).

Nice to see our recent research article (The Prakhon Chai Hoard Debunked: Unravelling Six Decades of Myth, Misdirection, and Misidentification, doi:10.1017/S0940739124000262) being featured quite prominently in this NPR piece on returns of looted objects to Thailand. https://lnkd.in/eEThaWV4

"The symposium aims to examine the relationships between the publics and peace-building processes in contested cities. (...) The island in general and Nicosia, a divided European capital with a prolonged history of conflict, internal refugees' displacements, migration and tourist flows, economic fluctuations, and rapid, often abrupt urban transformations, serve as an ideal laboratory to explore, unravel, and question public space development in unstable and contested contexts. The local urban context provides a valuable case study and can unveil the complexity of all the factors that condition the various forms of public space in contemporary contested, continuously transformed contexts."
Marion Hohlfeldt, Senior Lecturer in Art History in the Visual Arts Department at Université Rennes 2 and Director of the graduate school on Creative Approaches to Public Space (GS_CAPS), will be speaking at the Cyprus AESOP - Association of European Schools of Planning International Symposium "Constructing Peace through Public Space: What Publics? Whose Commons? Marion Hohfeldt is contributing to the round table "How do we create spaces for conciliation to transform conflicts constructively?" with a presentation of the work of Border Crossings, "Playing with Rules: Commoning and Intercultural Exchange in the Work of Border Crossings". We had the pleasure of welcoming Mickael Walling, artistic director of Border Crossings, for a theatre workshop co-organised with Eva Urban-Devereux during the CAPS Summer School 2023 in Rennes, France. The symposium will be organized at the @goethe and Home for Cooperation in the Buffer Zone of Nicosia, Cyprus. Proud to celebrate a significant cultural achievement for Romania: the monumental ensemble “The Heroes’ Path” (“Calea Eroilor”) by the great sculptor Constantin Brâncuşi in Romania has been added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List. This recognition honors the ensemble as one of the most notable examples of public art in the world. This remarkable ensemble comprises four masterpieces – “The Table of Silence,” “The Alley of Chairs,” “The Gate of the Kiss,” and “The Infinity Column.” These works, designed and constructed by the illustrious Romanian sculptor Constantin Brâncuşi between 1937 and 1938, stand as a testament to his extraordinary vision and artistic legacy. On this momentous occasion, my colleagues at LEAUA DAMCALI DEACONU PAUNESCU - LDDP and I reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the legal safeguarding of our national cultural heritage. Leveraging our extensive expertise and experience in this specialized field, we are dedicated to continue our strong collaborations with both public and private sectors to ensure the preservation and celebration of these invaluable cultural treasures for generations to come. Moreover, this is a good moment to remember one of my most cherished academic contributions: "Movable Cultural Heritage. Wisdom of the Earth by Constantin Brancusi: Public Domain and Recovery of Possession," published in the volume "Practical Aspects Regarding the Role of Administrative Law in the Modernization of Public Administration." This study was presented at the 2nd International Conference on Contemporary Challenges in Administrative Law from an Interdisciplinary Perspective, held on May 17, 2019. You can explore it further here: https://lnkd.in/dcUVn5bk #UNESCO #CulturalHeritage #ConstantinBrancusi #HeritageProtection #Romania #PracticeAndAcademics
