"Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting—
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things."
— Mary Oliver

#HiddenPaths and a Secret #Beach | Nature Walk Talks with Dr. Dale Atkins
https://lnkd.in/g_e8syHN#August #2024
Well, I'm still on Nantucket, and I found a path that I'd never seen before, and it looks like it's going right down to the beach.
Perhaps you'd like to explore it with me, and we'll take a nature walk and see where it leads.
Again, when you're in nature, you never know where you're going to end up.
Sometimes you'll find a hidden path, and I think that's what we found.
The message is just to keep your eyes open.
Really, what I saw was a broken-down sign that at one point in its life had said public beach.
Look at this.
I think it is.
Isn't this something?
Again, you never know what you're going to find.
There it is. Let's explore it together.
I'm happy to have you with me on my explorations in nature.
My message is always, just keep exploring.
You never know what you're going to find.
And when you find a secret beach, you can keep it to yourself or you can share it with others.
But it's a discovery, and that's the greatest thing.
Thanks for joining me for another nature walk talk.

📜 Project Overview
The story emphasizes the importance of listening to our surroundings. It highlights how various sounds—ranging from birdsong to human activity—affect animal behavior and habitat quality.
🔍 Key Features:
Engaging Visuals: Beautiful imagery showcases different ecosystems, enhancing the narrative.
Interactive Elements: Users can explore various soundscapes and learn about their significance.
🌿 Why It Matters
Understanding sound’s impact on wildlife can foster greater environmental awareness and conservation efforts. This project encourages us to appreciate the richness of our soundscapes and their vital role in sustaining biodiversity.

We need to take heed! Planet Earth is in Trouble! We need to change NOW!
David Attenborough just turned 98. Here is a statement by him and a link to a trailer a documentary about life on earth:
“I am David Attenborough, and I am 93. I’ve had the most extraordinary life. It’s only now that I appreciate how extraordinary.
the way we humans live on Earth now is sending biodiversity into a decline. This too is happening as a result of bad planning and human error and it too will lead to what we see here. A place in which we cannot live.
The natural world is fading. The evidence is all around. It’s happened in my lifetime. I’ve seen it with my own eyes. This film is my witness statement and my vision for the future, the story of how we came to make this our greatest mistake, and how, if we act now, we can yet put it right.
We must radically reduce the way we farm. We must change our diet. The planet can't support billions of meat eaters.
If we had a mostly plant-based diet we could increase the yield of the land. We have an urgent need for free land. Forests are fundamental to recovery - bio-centres of diversity.
With all these things, there is one overriding principle. Nature is our biggest ally and our greatest inspiration.
We need to learn how to work with nature, rather than against it. We need to rewild the world together!”

🌍 Some Inspiration... 🌍
In today’s fast-paced world, so many of us have lost touch with Mother Nature. Surrounded by screens, rushing from one task to the next, we rarely pause to connect with the earth that sustains us. The natural world, once central to our daily lives, has become something we visit now and then rather than something we live within every day.
But deep down, we’re still a part of it—no different from the trees, rivers, and animals that share this planet with us. Nature is the foundation of everything we are: the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat—all flow from this source. When we lose touch with it, we lose a vital part of ourselves.
In this inspiring clip, featuring Tiokasin Ghosthorse and filmed in the beautiful landscapes of New York State, we are reminded of our responsibility to care for this planet that sustains us. Reconnecting with nature restores our balance, fuels our well-being, and reminds us of our interconnectedness.
At Habitarmonia, this belief shapes everything we do. Our courses are designed to teach biophilic design as a bridge to bring nature back into our daily environments. We are committed to cultivating advocates who can translate this connection into the built environment—creating spaces that not only nurture us but also honor and protect the earth.
Let’s take a step back, breathe, and remember that we belong to the natural world just as much as it belongs to us. 🌱
